Re: New to forum and would like advice please

When my V6 started playing up I decided to replace it. A fairly dispassionate analysis brought the conclusion that living in the South, surrounded by 20mph limits, A roads progressively reduced to 40 and 50, overwhelming traffic, the surplus power of the V6 over the 2.0 was academic in the circumsta...

Re: 40 odd years difference in technology!

Bought my second TR7 new in 1979 and it cost me £6200 with the extras, custom paint (gold over the Carmine original), sunroof, Ziebart, alarm, Cibie lights, Wolfrace alloys. Loved it to bits and took it all over, had no trouble apart from the second gear synchromesh wearing - the Rover 5 speed was n...

Warranty cost increase

My Jaguar extended warranty renewal has arrived and it’s gone from £800 to over £1000 including the Jaguar recovery. Another example of shocking price increases. Have gone with it this time but perhaps not much longer. Somewhat apprehensive already about next years insurance increase. Will these end...

Jaguar dealers closing in 2024

Checking a service booking today I find that my Jaguar dealer in Taunton will be closing next year - it seems in anticipation of the not hotly awaited transition of Jaguar to budget busting EVs, Jaguar will only have 18 dealers in the whole of the UK in 2025, from I believe 92 now. The pompous “Hous...

Re: Isle of Man

Accommodation situation fairly bleak, most hotels on Douglas seafront with minimal on road parking on the prom or a Seventies multi storey horror behind. It is a Victorian resort still geared up for … coach parties. We used a guest house “Englewood Lodge” which was outstanding - and had safe parking...

Re: Isle of Man

Yes, it can't last, go soon. Best times for driving seem to be early morning and the later afternoon, the roads can be quite busy in between. Here's a video for Jonm. No sound sadly as the co-pilot added a commentary. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/5hagk8yjhiz6rnx1vapyn/IOM.mov?rlkey=xbda6k51pzrcz08...

Isle of Man

Just back from a great few days on the Isle of Man. Forum members may not be aware that the national speed limit on the IOM is - there is no limit, just “safe and sensible”. With some terrific driving roads across the various mountains, all in excellent condition and pothole free, this must be one o...

Re: New DVLA service

One update - if the name in your passport is not identical to your driving licence (for example if you have two middle names DVLA truncates the second one to an initial on the driving licence) the registration for this service will fail. Hopeless.

Re: Insurance Renewal

Just received the renewal for my P300 2020 from Direct Line. Premium increased by 60% but at £277 I don't think I'm going to get much better. Last year's premium was welcome, but bizarrely cheap at £173! Have I the energy to search a dozen insurers...no.
