Re: Aircon smell

Try the aircon cleaning aerosol first. It only takes around 20 mins. If the smell doesn’t go then off to the dealer.

Re: Alternator failure.

They hope to start the diagnostics tomorrow. I understand they will have service customers booked in and that it’s the holiday season. I’ve now got the use of a brand new Sportbrake so I’m fine about that for a week at least.

Re: Alternator failure.

It's back at Marshall's and I've got on loan a brand new XF Sportbrake supplied by Jaguar. They even took me 25 miles to Lincoln by taxi to collect it. Things are looking up!

Re: Alternator failure.

AA came promptly. Agreed with me it was a faulty alternator like I said last time. There was zero output. Being collected to return to Marshall’s tomorrow. I hope their showroom’s full of potential customers when it arrives on a flatbed! Once again promised a loan car and driving licence details wer...

Re: Alternator failure.

So I took it to the dealer. As soon as I got in the car it said ‘low battery please start engine’ which didn’t bode well. I got to Marshalls Lincoln and by my measurement the battery was reading 12.2 v. They checked it out and said everything read out ok but it might be a good idea to put it on char...

Re: Alternator failure.

I’ll know more and will report back after my visit this afternoon. I’ve done a lot of reading and research on the subject but I don’t want to appear too cocky and smart arse when I meet with them. I’ll let them do the talking as they have to justify the work done to JLR.

Re: Alternator failure.

I’ve checked the battery after an overnight ‘rest’ and my three test meters give readings of 12.12, 12.10 and 12.11 volts. I’m going over to Lincoln this afternoon for a further analysis. I’m more intrigued than annoyed. I do love sorting problems! :D

Re: Alternator failure.

No, they said there was no fault indicated. I have been looking at the battery management system info. and discover that after a recharge it does a recalibration which takes it down to 12.2 volts and gradually brings it back up to a minimum of 12.6v dependent on vehicle usage. Perhaps we are in that...

Re: Alternator failure.

So my sorry saga continues. They eventually called me late Wednesday afternoon to to say that they’d changed a couple of modules and reprogrammed the system and the car would be ready Thursday morning after they’d seen how the recharged battery had behaved overnight. I had to chase them this morning...

Re: Alternator failure.

That is not my complaint. I realise the problem might take a few days to resolve. The problem is the total lack of communication and the failure to provide a loan car as promised by JLR. Other than a text from JLR promising me a loan car which has not materialised and thanking me for my patience I h...
