Hi to all

SWMBO has decided she would like an F Type -

We originally looked at and specced up a 718 Cayman, but then she had a ride in a Base level (2.0Ltr) F Type Coupe, and decided that was the car for her.

But the big problem we already have is the Dealerships we have visited. What on Earth? I have bought many quality cars over the years but the 2 Jag dealerships I visited this weekend, are the worst I have experienced in many many years (by the way this is our first Jag purchase). Is this what I have to expect ? a severe lack of customer orientated attention?

Looking forward to bombarding you all with many other questions, and providing more insight on our journey into the world of the F Type.

Ah the inexpicabley terrible jag sales experience....Oddly ive found service better than sales, but Its not just you, the sales experience is was oddly poor at 3 garages i went to. I decided i liked the car enough to overlook it in the end and went with the least bad #shrug Jess

Which explains why I went via a specialist for a late high spec car as got treated well ....

Servicing to date has been a far better main dealer experience ...

For new it does appear to be shocking in most places ... With most getting carwow type deals then finding the least painful dealer to squeeze ...

Good luck and hope you get what you both want soon ...

Where are you located. Might help fellow owners recommend some places to you. I have only dealt with an outfit in Scotland when purchasing vehicle to get shipped to NZ. Dealt with 2 Jag garages over here and all were good. Hope you get a better experience.

I've had a great experience with Taggarts Jaguar here in Scotland. Sales and service staff are all great.

Just a quick one to share my recent experiences of Jaguar dealerships.

I'm on my second Jaguar. F-Type right now, but an F-Pace S a short while back. Things with the F-Pace went ok in the main. The car that was built with my name on it ended up not having everything on it that I ordered for a complicated and strange reason. But the ones important to me were there so no real worries.

However, with the F-Type, the first dealer I went to, I walked out of the place. It was Stratstone in Houghton-le-Spring. I had an appointment with the sales guy for 1pm. I arrived at 12:55, introduced myself to reception. I was told said sales guy was with a customer and would be me shortly. I was offered and accepted a cup of tea.
Fast forward to 1-25pm and I'm walking out of the place having been seen by no-one. I thanked the reception lady for the tea and left. Once home I emailed the Head of Business at the showroom telling him what happened. He replied in a very short time, all apologetic and promising that should I choose to return there things would be different as he was about to have a word in everyone's ear about how to go on with customers.

As a polar opposite, I went online to look for another car I was interested in and found it at Matford Jaguar in Exeter. I am happy to report that I cannot praise them enough. Great service, great atmosphere, cannot do enough for you. So we did the deal over the phone and email over the course of a couple of days. Then my daughter and I drove down to Exeter from Northumberland to swap cars. Matford provided lunch for us in a local hotel, then back to the showroom for signatures and handover, and then drive the new car back home.

So if you're in the market for a Jaguar and Exeter is ok for you, I can highly recommend Matford.

Thank you for the replies.

As we are in the market for a low mileage used/nearly new car, to a certain minimum specification, will no doubt experience the good and the bad.

Not bothered about a long term relationship, just a good deal and if the deal is not right will be more than happy to walk form a poor dealer.

Dealer experience differs wildly. I drive close by my local dealer an on for 30 miles to one where service is outstanding for anything other than parts

We also ended up 40 miles away, after being met with indifference at the local dealership. Funny thing was, that I received a follow up call almost 18 months later, enquiring if I was still considering a purchase! Now if they'd bothered to follow up shortly after the test drive or replied to my email, with the price quote that was discussed, we'd have ordered an F type and an XE from them. But 18 months later! It gave me a real laugh!
