That's what I was thinking! But I've already done my one-off payment a few months ago... :(

You can always Sorn it then renew again... Careful not to cost yourself a month though!

Philskill wrote: Fri Oct 22, 2021 11:49 am That is odd as I was also under the impression Tax 7 was when it stopped, as it's "5 years (from the second time the vehicle is taxed)".

1 May 17-18 : £140 or £2000
1 May 18-19 : +£335
1 May 19-20 : +£335
1 May 20-21 : +£335
1 May 21-22 : +£335
1 May 22-23 : +£335 <-- ?
1 May 23-24 : £140

It's in advance, I wonder if this is to do with installments.. seems a way of avoiding the luxury duty for the last 11 months...
Um, I've read all the posts twice inbetween a covid nap, and I cannot work it out.

My direct debit mandate on the letter says
1st May 2022 £42.87 DD
Car is 5yrs old on 27th May 2022
1st June 2022 £13.56 DD

So that is not after second payment at all but first payment after car is 5 yrs old.

Interesting comments about yearly payments though.

I presume (unless my maths is really shot!) that those years should be 2022?

My annual tax is due on 1st June 2022, a month after its 5th birthday so I'll see what the postman brings!

Just to confirm it is per payment. So for example:

My car is 50360 and I pay monthly by DD and is registered on DVLA (https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk) as May 2017 (Actual registered date 23rd May 2017).
It says the applicable rate is until 31st May 2022.

Looking at another members new car, 47504, this is recorded as first registered May 2017 as well. (Actually the same registered date of 23rd May 2017).
It says the applicable rate is until 31st October 2022. This looks like it was last taxed for 6 months hence the applicable rate is further on.

Might be worth people changing to monthly DD 1 year before the 5th anniversary of the car which could save up to £335.

I'll probably be SORN'ing it once the Rangie gets through it's MOT (SORN also saves on the luxury tax cost). So need to make a note when I re-tax it to go monthly although Mines at 3 years now, so luxury tax doesnt end till Oct 2024.... or so I thought...

The DVLA site says this for me:
Date of first registration OCT 2018.. Additional rate applicable till 30 June 2024...???

Be very interesting what you have to pay in that last year SCM, it may even be worth you switching to installments for the next renewal, as it seems whatever you pay after that date will be at the reduced rate.

According to the web site I don't get the reduction until 2023. I'll look into the numbers at next renewal time.
