John - I hesitate to post this having just joined the forum and like you looking for a convertible, but this is a combination of things from the forum and also from an RAC (I think) article about buying the F type second hand - they are not in any particular order. Hopefully the more experienced members will comment:
Door alignment particularly on passenger side
Check servicing up to date on the on-line system
Front bumper to wheel arch alignment
Poor fit of under wheelarch protection material
Roof issues include not folding correctly, sticking half way, not lying flat when top down
Centre vent issue - not rising when they should or only rising half way
Rear suspension thump due to isolator sleeve not fitted to rear coli spring
Flaky paint. Water in the headlamp covers
Gearbox issues. Stop start issues. Tyre pressure sensors.

Have fun tomorrow!

Check glass on door windows. They get scratched with grit under the seals. There is a Jaguar bulletin to replace glass and seals.

Exhaust valve - mine was stuck open and I've seen folks post about similar question. Not a showstopper even if so but easier to get them to fix before you drive out away rather than 3 weeks later when you try and turn it off for the first time and can't ;)

MAybe obvious, but ensure it will be warranted to OEM levels if not a Jaguar dealer, ALL service items completed and documented and check for the service pack ... really useful as a) it will have been serviced with no expense spared and b) you wont have to pay out for a year or two ...

Good Luck finding you summer toys ...
Storm Grey V6 coupe, fun, fast, popping and crackling with smiles all the way ... missed more than I expected!
1998 NSX 3.2 Targa manual
C43 AMG estate, lots of toys, like the F-Type but with 4 seats and far more stealthy but still with pops and crackles!

Hello John & welcome to the forum.

Sometimes looking on forums can turn you into a gibbering wreck. Two examples...

I drive a Vauxhall Vivaro van in the week. Brought second hand 6 years ago. Drive it stop-start Mon-Fri all over the place. Had very few issues in that time apart from clutch & power steering pump. According to forums it would be in the garage every other week & financially crippling me. Apparently gearboxes are made of glass. No they are not but they do like treating with respect.

Brought my low mileage (8k) F-Type last year from Jaguar main dealer with 2-Year warranty. It was three years old but had obviously spent most of its life in a garage. No mechanical issues at all.

With this warranty you are as good as buying new. Only thing I’d look for are small imperfections in the bodywork. Stone chips, marks etc. Also check inside on the door cards for any scuffs, dinks with legs/feet catching. Go over every inch of the car with a fine tooth comb & note everything you come across. These are the issues you’d find difficult to prove after sale.

Good luck with your purchase 👍

Thank you all,

I have purchased the car and will collect it next Saturday :)

It was as clean as they had claimed no marks or chips at all (yes passenger door fit was good)

No stranger to forums or fast cars as I have previously owned a Supra TT aero top.

Thank you all for your advice and support. I hope to meet some of you at events and meets.
