2017 f type coupe v6 had it for a year with 5k miles now until two days ago when i over reved it on a up shift and now the engine is blown good thing that the warranty will supply another engine bad news it need a month to be done since I’m not living in uk I’m just warning all f type owners as tempting as going through the tunnels and over reving the engine to hear the that wicked noise don’t do it even though the ecu allows it to don’t having my f type away for a month is a difficult price to pay since I’m so attached to it

im quite surprised this would happen, I've seen a couple of other threads about this, i've been driving mine spiritedly through some roads I know in the dales, I usually drive it in manual and in R mode, my confidence has somewhat lowered learning this could happen. Is your car tuned? auto I guess too?

How can you over rev a ZF auto box?? It wont let you over rev on accelerating as it hits the limiter. And wont down shift to a gear that would over rev.

Funnily enough...

Today I was driving in Sport but full auto( not using paddles)
Went for an overtake and the car dropped to 2nd gear but then '2' came up on the dash - like when you're using the paddles.
It didn't change up and the 2 went white (assume telling me it hit the limiter) and I had to use the paddles to change up.

Is this possible in Sport mode and changing down at high revs?

If so, it really shouldn't be but then.....if the sport possition is effectively a manual gear change, then it can be over-revved like a manual.

Ouch

But isn't the sport position effectively manual rather than auto? You just have the option of changing gear with either pasddles or stick.

But it must have a rev limiter so you can’t over Rev on an upshift..

If you floor it in sport/dynamic and manual the number showing gear, goes white at high reves and then flashes white then the limiter.

EDIT. From reading the ZF spec you cannot over rev it either on upshift (car has soft limiter) or downshift (wont let you select a gear that would take it beyond red line). You can, perhaps what the OP is suggesting, is knock the car into neutral in tunnels whilst moving and rev as much as you want.
