Hi Seagullfan,

And welcome to the forum and your hunt for your F-type ...

I understand your thinking ref main dealer given the close call on the 911 ... however, there are many good specialists offering F-types that could either save you on the purchase price yet still come with manufacturer warranty, or enable you to look at a later car.

I don’t think you stated preference for Coupe or Convertible, if buying a Coupe, don’t buy without the pan roof unless significantly cheaper. Switchable exhaust is a must have for most, 19” wheels depending on your location and favourite roads are the sensible option as 18’s look small and 20’s can incur pothole damage.

Panel fit isn’t always as you would expect, check lower door alignment, frontwing to bonnet/bumper around the line of the arch (it will be obvious if wrong). Both are correctable and usually require the skills of a body shop to fully align.

Also consider the 340 option. Whilst the 380 gets ‘performance’ brakes, I never found the standard brakes lacking. If you want the extra ponies, these are easily achievable by remapping (which is how Jaguar do it) and in OEM trim only really available at the top of the rev range, so unless you’re a track addict, you’re rarely going to be hitting the rev range to notice the difference.

Write yourself a must have / must not list and go hunting ... and look for small details like heated steering wheel, electric tailgate as whilst I would not have ticked the options list, when I found my car and they were fitted I found them very useful ...

All the usual stuff as above, history etc are obvious. Also look at tyres and if they are low enough to enter a negotiation with the supplying dealer, many would recommend the MIchelin over the OEM Pzero ....

Good Luck and HTH, rgds Paul

What causes it is simply bad employees. They attach those parts manually without precision. Look up F-type photos on Jaguar’s website or netcarshow and you won’t see this issue but on production cars I would say about 8/10 cars have bad alignment like the photo showed.

I thought I had found one of interest only to get a call today to say it had gone.
Going to stop off on drive back to Sussex from the Lake District tomorrow. Main dealer car, 63 plate, 10500 mile, looks a fairly great or spec to me and asking a tad under 40k.

It’s black. Would have preferred one in red, but don’t seem to be many on market right now

so looked at 3 today, one didn't feel right, no real reason, but just didn't feel right.
next garage saw two, one white one black, white had been my preference, but black just edged it on condition and service history. From a main dealer, 63 plate and 10k on clock. Full invoice value Jag warranty, managed to get a reversing camera retro fitted and ceramic coating (which seemed a good idea being black) for £500.

Quite happy with the deal and now will be counting the days until it's ready!

I was just about to say, don't buy a black car, they're a PITA to keep clean and show up every minute scratch! ;-)

Too late now I guess...but hey, they look awesome when freshly polished.

Hi Tel

yup i know they are, once had one as a daily real pain.
However as this ones a sunny day, dry road, car hopefully it won't be so bad.
My weekend toys are usually cleaned before they get taken out. Hopefully the ceramic coating may also make life a little easier ... I did say hopefully!

Congrats, and if you get tired of cleaning, or simply fancy a change, black is the best base colour for vinyl wrapping as you don’t need to do the door shuts etc ...

You could wrap it in a version of the VW Polo Harlequin.

...there you are, now that's put you off temptation

Congratulations on the purchase and enjoy the great smiles it will bring.
