Morning All

I am currently looking at my short list of new cars and its F-Type V6S AWD, F-Type V6S AWD, F-Type V6S AWD oh and Audi TTRS.

Being new to Jag I thought I would start by browsing this forum, very impressive and all members seem to be very helpful and knowledgeable.

So the big questions are.....what are the pit falls and what should I be looking out for? I am looking to spend around £40k and from main dealer only. I am aware of the corrosion issue at the rear cross member and will keep an eye out for that. Is there any other issues I should keep an eye out for?

Eagerly awaiting to see the F-Type on my drive. I am in no rush and not really too fussed if I do not find the right car for couple months. I do have my list of essential options starting with Heated Seats and Heated Front Screen, tame I know, but I have never had either. The wife has both in her Evoque and I am incredibly jealous LOL

Commonly talked about things are:

Corrosion on rear cross brace - there is now a free fix from Jaguar who will replace the parts if required.
Battery - some people have battery conditioners attached however I've left mine for weeks at a time and have had no issues.
Panel alignment / door fit on older models - dealer should adjust
Options/Colour - completely up to the buyer!
Seat comfort - do check the seats are comfortable for you, mixed variety of opinions on the various seats

If you do find a model you are interested in then feel free to PM me the reg plate and I will look up the history for you on Jaguar systems and reply (I am sure mods will allow you PM capability as you only have 1 post and need a minimum number of posts before you can PM).

Happy "new" car hunting......

Hi simpleR

Thank you for a fast and informative response. Also thank you for the kind offer of checking the history or my new stallion, when I find it.

Yes I have read about panel alignment and will keep an eye out for that.

You can eliminte your last choice unless you like driving something that looks like a jelly mould. The fact that your first three choices are among the most gorgeous looking cars on the planet tells me you have good taste. ;)

There are plenty to choose from so take your time and wait for the right one to come along, and you won't be disappointed! Unless you hanker after the V8 - that's awesome! :D

As much as I like the performance of the V8 I am trying to be practical, within reason. The extra fuel, tax and insurance for the few times I would get the extra horses unleashed is not cost effective. I think the V6s AWD will have to suffice. It will also be the Coupe as I prefer the looks and have never really been a fan of the convertibles.

However my choices must include the above mentioned heated seats and front screen. I think I would like to add the reversing camera to the list. I would also like the PAN roof but thats a preferred rather than required. Fave colour so far is the Red.

I am hoping that there will be more choice with my list of choices as we approach end of March when the new registration comes out. Fingers crossed for lots of low mileage trade ins

I came from an Audi TTS, and considered buying a TTRS.

But F-Types are just so beautiful that it was a no-brainer for me!!
You won't be disappointed with a V6 AWD.

My must-have options were pano roof, super sports seats, high performance brakes and rear camera.

Be aware that MY2017 facelift model has different headlights/front-end, slimmer lightweight seats, and improved infotainment system.

I also wanted to buy from a main dealer, but after several failed attempts to get the right car at the right price, I opted to buy from a specialist used prestige & sports car retailer. Best car buying experience ever. I highly recommend https://www.lodgemotor.co.uk/.

Good luck with your search...

Hello Andrew
Just wanted to wish you well with your test drive tomorrow.
For me, the piano roof is a must have. I’m 6’4” and it gives me plenty of headroom!
Purists will say rear wheel drive is best but I’ve found the AWD is just useful and practical.
You mention practicality - I sold a RWD 400 Sport and bought an SVR. My insurance company didn’t bat an eyelid and the rise in premium was minimal (I’m aged 51 with lots of claim free years).
However, in my experience thus far, the difference in fuel used is most def noticeable haha!
Also, quite agree with you re coupe over cabriolet.
Anyway, have a fab time!
Regards, Ian

Hi Ian

Thank you for the info. The test drive turned out to be an overnight affair lol. They had a technical problem with the car and I ended up waiting an hour. So to compensate for the inconvenience I was given the car for the afternoon/evening and returned today at 3pm

The car was, as amazing as I was hoping and expecting it to be. I did notice how thirsty the 380 was compared to my current car. As I am only 5ft 8 the roof is never going to be an issue lol. I did also not just how wide the F-Type is. I thought the wifes Evoque was a reasonable size car but its footprint is dwarfed by the F-Type.

I am just 55 with many years no claims, however when I tried to compare costs with my insurance the 5L V8 jumped £500 compared to the V6 only jumping £100 per year on top of my current insurance premium.

Regards
Andrew

Yeah, the F-Type is deceptively wide - it's even wider then my previous XKR! But is a foot shorter, so not all bad. The V6 has got more than enough performance for most people and some think it's the ideal combination for the model. OTOH, you can never have enough power! :D
