Well it's been a very long time coming, but I paid the deposit on my F-Type yesterday, and will collect next week.

I ended up with an Approved Used 2104 5.0S in Satellite Blue.

I've spent over a year trying to decide whether this was a sensible purchase or not (it's not!), whether the R was worth the extra £12k (hopefully not), whether it was going to be more fun than my SLK (it had better be!). And whilst the running costs of what is essential a weekend toy still give me palpitations, everyone is right - when that V8 starts, you have a smile on your face.

Looking forward to contributing to the forums with some real world experiences!

Wait until you have done a long run in it. Playing with the throttle peddle & trying different gear change points in dynamic,,, you will be laughing all the way. Enjoy.

The "Start" is what I wait for each week. Oh, that sound.
I'm a fairly sedate drive with the RPM most 1500-2500 so I don't quite hear the exhaust as much as I hoped for, unless I use active exhaust.

You can't compare this to an SLK !!

Just pop it in dymanic mode. ;)
And even at low RPMs it can be quite a quick drive! :o

Sounds like you have compared it, and found the Merc a bit lacking? :D

@ scm. I did drive an SLK briefly in 2011, but that doesn't count, but remember that it was the most uncomfortable drive ever.
I wouldn't compare an SLK to a V8 F type though. Thinking about it, besides the 911, I don't think that there is anything else to compare the F type to and this is because it's a strict 2 seater. Even the 911 seat's 4.

Thanks for all the welcome messages!

I'm really going to miss my SLK; on a '£ per mile per smile' basis it's going to be really difficult to beat - and if I'd have bought an 55AMG rather than the 3.5l I'm not sure I'd be moving on.

But moving on I am - at a vast rate of knots, with bags of opposite lock and tyre smoke!
