Hi all and thank you for accepting me.

I’m in the market for an f-type convertible as a second, fun car. I have had a 1990s Lotus Elan Turbo for some years and fancy a change. Truth is, I’ve long since promised myself a V8 one day.

Despite driving an electric car (and keen to encourage the take-up) on a day to day basis, I’ve always been a petrolhead, building cars (kits, renovations or modifications) for over 30 years. I’m also a biker with a collection ranging from 1950s through to new, so I like my motorised thrills!

I started looking at V8 vantages and that lead me to the f-type. I’ve spent hours online watching YouTube videos and reviews, but there’s nothing like hands on experience, so I’m looking at starting to look at cars.

I know many will say the V6 is as fast as can be used on the road, and I suspect they are right, but it would still leave me with a V8 itch to scratch. So a 2013 or 2014 V8S is what I’m looking for. There seem to be a few at the 20,000 to 40,000 mile range.

Well, that’s my thinking.

Any guidance? Any (constructive - not new to forums😁) thoughts? What should I be looking for?

Cheers David

Welcome from another biker and petrol head.

Went through the V8 Vantage route and indeed the V6 F.
If your a keen, spirited driver, then the V8s will not didsapoint. Had one, but wanted more and settled on the R. Apart from minor tweaks that you'd only notice at breakneck speed, they are fundamentally the same.
If you could stretch your budget and go for MY2016 or a 15 plate, you would benefit from a lighter car as JLR shed some bloat and of course in the spirit of a proper drive, still retain RWD before they got Mericanised to AWD.

I waiting for my lottery win and then it'll be an 812 GTS with the song of a V12...

Hello and welcome from another fellow biker & petrolhead. Judging by your resumé, you'll get on well here.

I find my V6S plenty quick enough but if you crave a V8, go for it. Bear in mind road tax & insurance will be more expensive.

There is no substitute for driving a few to compare. Spend a bit of time deciding on which options are essential, eg. seats, dual zone climate, and this will help narrow your search.

No matter which one you get, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Well, I did it!

I decided I wouldn’t buy something till later in the year unless the right spec car came up and here it is! V8S with all the bits I wanted.

I know it’s likely that I’ve bought at the height of the market but, as someone said on another thread, ‘you’re a long time dead’….. or words to that effect.

A few little issues to sort out but nothing major, I just like to tinker :D
