is that really a shock given the amount all manufacturers charge for ceramic brakes as an option on a new car? they probably sell so few that the manufacturing cost never comes down due to economies of scale.

yes it is a shock

go and see how much Audi charge for Ceramic Brake Pads (<£500)

and I think Brembo make enough of them to have economies of scale in manufacturing

I would guess that brembo make a lot more audi pads than jaguar pads

the Audi ceramic brake system is different

VWG use Carbon Ceramic Brake (CCB) system

Jaguar, Ferrari, McLaren, Aston Martin et al us Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM)

they are different in design, manufacturing, construction, performance

The CCM components will be the same parts across the OEM's - just with different fixing points, offsets etc to fit different cars

Jeez-us! That's a big outlay. Wonder if there will be non branded ones available?

I nearly went for the CB package, but the guys that were 'racing' the F-Types at the Millbrook 'Beyond Limits' days, reckoned on the Sup Perf Brake package with steels was more than adequate, so I plumbed for the cheaper option...glad I did!

The steels do get a little vague when pushed really hard i.e when the ABS cutting in consistently at corner entry, but for normal spirited driving they are more than adequate.

I specifically avoided the ceramic brakes this time round - on the 911 a set of pads and discs was north of 5k; and that's just too much of an outlay for a consumable for me. When I raised this point with the dealer that was trying to sell me a car with them on they implied that the Jaguar parts cost a lot less than the Porsche equivalent. Very glad I didn't fall for that line then!
