Just been to Jag and they will supply a new bonnet for £1,245. That surprised me to be fair it being Jag.
@Myer My Dent man is so good he trains Jaguar how to remove dents, but from what you guys have said I still risk a bad paint job on top of it all and it has to be perfect for this car.
I think I will go for a new panel and full respray
@Tel I have full protected NCB but have two other cars, if I make a claim it will end up costing me more than £2,000 in increased premiums over the next 5 years, plus my excess is £750 so its really not worth the effort.
Thanks for the advice chaps

Ouch!........I feel your pain.
Tricky decision, but it certainly makes sense to try to find out prices and weighing up the potential figures before going the insurance route.
One thing to perhaps bear in mind is that this is an aluminium panel, not mild steel, so there is a different challenge regarding dent removal....Not so easy as mild steel. Due to localised material (work) hardening at the crease areas. This could easily end up with requiring more filler than if it were made of mild steel.......All depends on the skill of the guy doing the work.
Good luck. Keep us in the loop.

Who is to say that "Jaguar" will carry out a perfect paint job, in my humble experience they mainly contract out their bodywork to a local firm, which may or may not be good. As for those larger dealers that have in house body shop facilities, I have seen some dreadful work.
My advice is to find a really good repairer, go on recommendation, pay them a visit and inspect their work before committing.
As for buying a brand new bonnet, it really makes very little difference as a really good specialist repairer will remove 95% of the damage prior to re finishing, so save your cash.

I totally agree with Myer on this. I would never take a car to a main agent to repair or repaint. It will either be way more expensive for the same quality job, or simply contracted out to someone else. The real specialist are the accident repair centres who specialise in high end vehicles or specialist spray shops. It's all they do all day.. Go and talk to one and have a look. All those closely examining my SVR front at the weekend didn't know it was sprayed at a small local specialist shopMyer wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2017 10:29 am Who is to say that "Jaguar" will carry out a perfect paint job, in my humble experience they mainly contract out their bodywork to a local firm, which may or may not be good. As for a new bonnet - why waste the money. First thing when a new one is delivered is it's flatted and filled before spraying
