Last time I read the regs the size of the plate was irrelevant. The font and spacing were relevant, as long as you conform to those your free to adapt as you wish.

I run cut down (width) plates on my F355 with a five digit registration, but correct lettering and spacing. I've never had a problem.
My F Type has a six digit reg. and I've not bothered.
My personal opinion that you can easily fall into naff with plate design, never mind problems with plod.
2017MY F Type Coupe, Caldera Red, 19 Centrifuges, Pan Roof, Leather memory heated seats, Parking pack. Also 1957 XK150 FHC.

The size of the plate is governed by the minimum border, top and ends and of course letter spacing.
Agree that if you conform your left alone as it’s totally legal

Yes it is, with the exception of USA spec cars which have the plate holder riveted to the crossbar, a little ridiculous when some states do not require a front plate!
