So, having owned the car 2 weeks, I'm now having it recovered and sent back to Jag, with a potential bill of £2500 (from reading other forums).

The culprit?

Doing around 15mph over this slight ramp (taken from Google maps):

There is no damage to the front of the car:

Although there are scuffs to the bottom plastic lip (I did not inspect this when I bought the car so no idea if they are me or previous owner):

Even more scuffs to the bottom plastic lip now as the recovery truck's flatbed was pretty steep.

So what do we think? Am I going to be out of pocket or if this Jag's fault?

I don't know but it would be good if the ecu stored the measured values at point of impact, speed, throttle position, revs, etc. to exonerate you from blame.

I suppose this sort of thing is where dashcams have value.

Good luck.

Hi, the event data recorder will tell jaguar all they need to know with regards speed, how hard you where pressing the accelerator, even if you had your seat belt on. The system works between 12 and 50mph. Page 256 of hand book will give you more details. Hope you get your car back soon.

I knew our cars had some kind of pedestrian safety system but have to be honest that I had no idea what it did. So it basically deploys an external airbag?

That has to be a fault in yours surely and you must be able to claim under warranty?

Would love to see a picture to how and where it deploys from.

It deploys in the engine bay and pops the bonnet to provide cushioning

I'll post a picture of the bonnet as soon as I get back. It didn't *seem* bent but who knows.

Annoyingly the recovery van took it to the nearest Jag approved garage who close at 13:00 on a Saturday so I can't even talk to them until Monday morning.

I've been over that ramp twice a day since I've owned the car, definitely faster as well.

Seems like a fault to me.

Thought I had a better shot than this but obviously not.
It shows the bonnet having been popped up:
