To update this after my conversation with their Service Manager today. What I was told by the Service Advisor was fundamentally incorrect. It was the Transfer Box fluid that was being changed as part of the service schedule and in order to do that the gearbox cross member needs to be removed. It was a captive nut within the chassis that came loose and necessitated the specialist works.

It’s not ideal but I have been assured that all will be well when the car is returned to me.

Hi! I just dropped my car on Saturday for the three year service and the same thing happened. I have a 2016 AWD S. The two bolts are spinning when doing the transfer case fluid replacement. They said they would have to contact JLR and wouldn’t have any info before Tuesday. I wonder if JLR didn’t control their welding process well enough at this location..

How long did the repair take for your car?

Sorry, only just seen this. Good to hear that it isn’t/wasn’t just me!! The car was with them for nearly a fortnight. I hope yours has been successfully sorted.

Bringing this thread back to life, i've checked the service schedules you can download on the OSH webiste, with my VIN entered for a MY16 V6 S there is no mention for the transfer box fluid to be repalced on the 36mth service, or any services that I could see! Is this something just on the V8R and V6 S AWD which is why your cars have had it done?

At the 48mth service it does mention 'Renew rear locking differential oil (if fitted)' however I was told my car doent have this fitted
