Can’t see why you’d need other than to grimd their heads off and with the panel removed them drill or cut out the remaining stud. All it then needs is new rivnut or at worse some minor alloy repair/weld.
I cannot imagine the need for new box sections
Most likely a poor description by the dealer or increased opportunity by the specialist
I think they got the two at the front out and it’s the nuts and bolts that are spinning. Whichever it is they clearly don’t know what they are doing.
If it’s the nuts and bolts then it’s nonsense as clearly they had to be tightened by 2 spanners (or machines) so nothing needs cutting out.
Bolts you just grind a head off and that’s it.
I don’t think we have the full picture, because idiot garage or not a specialist has agreed the type of work required

You would think that.

It’s a Jaguar main dealer.

I’ll certainly be getting to the bottom of it one way or another.

STOP THE JOB straight away and ask for some photographic evidence or have a look at the issue yourself and take photos. Post them here and we can give you a far more professional verdict than your dealer! :-)

Some of us are engineers and know how to properly wield a hammer!

Sounds to me like your dealer may have made a cock up. Firstly, why on earth would you cut aluminium support member without firstly consulting the owner??? I smell a rat with this one.

JLR dealers these days can manage to plug in computers and read the screen, I'm afraid that's your lot...they cannot even get an oil change correct, and that's the same story over in the US as well! Mind you, if you read the TopIX, which is ambiguous beyond belief, it's no wonder!

The problem that I now have is that when the job was explained to me when it first arose it was portrayed as a simple case of a couple of fixings that needed to be undone but that they would require a specialist to complete the job. It’s only subsequently that I’ve discovered the job is far more involved than that. As far as I am aware the cutting has already taken place!!

...Well I would still ask for photographic evidence at least, or even a second opinion maybe.

I've personally never heard of this fault, and I monitor 4 F-Type forums. Sounds like, looking at the TopIX that either they are talking about the wrong part or they themselves have screwed up, either way, I would want full and frank disclosure.

It sounds like one of the captured nuts in the frame is loose. The dealers were sent a tool to repair this years ago. All that is needed is the drill a new hole & install the nutsert.
