They are thrown up by the front wheels.

On my car the door sits "out" a fraction of a milimeter compared to the rear panel, making it hard for stones to hit the rear panel edge. The stones will instead be "deflected" by the door panel, hitting it in such a steep angle that they don't leave any marks.

Not shure if this kind of alignment is planned or not, but on my car it works very well. No marks or stonechips on those edges what so ever.

The front wings are relatively easy to move outwards slightly. They unbolt at the top and sides (by the door) so you can loosen the bolts and adjust the alignment a little. The wing needs to sit out further than the door to reduce these chips.

Ooops - i read it too quickly and thought it was the leading edge of the door. :lol:
