Not a lot on the web apart from noise testing at track days.
Found this but it doesn't describe the testing methods.
https://www.vehicle-certification-agenc ... -noise.asp

It may be a bit sad but I recall Ed China taking a Cobra kit car for certification on the tv and as far as I remember the car was static at 3000 rpm?
Microphone was to the rear and slightly to the side of the rear of the car.
I'm sure somewhere in the "Vehicle Certification Agency" regs etc it will detail the testing procedure but personally life is too short to look it up.
:D

Using Phil's links it appears that the V8 SVR has to be QUIETER than the 2 litre:

My R measured 98dB at Castle Combe at 4,000 RPM, in dynamic mode so valves open.

Luckily they didn't measure the back when I throttled off.

They just applied this update during the service because I have a lease car and it's necessary in Germany.

I don't notice any difference though, they told me that volume on idle exceeded the regulations but it was always pretty quiet in Neutral, so I don't get it anyway. Afterwards I pulled the fuse again so it doesn't really matter, when revving it in neutral it always sounded much better than with the fuse.
