On my V6 S I have the following driving modes: Rain/Ice/Snow, Dynamic, Dynamic Launch and Configurable Dynamic Mode.

When I use the ‘Dynamic’ driving mode switch on the centre console, ‘Dynamic mode confirmed’ appears on the instrument panel which turns red. I can put the car into ‘Dynamic’ mode whether or not the car is stationary. The description for ‘Dynamic’ mode is.........”Dynamic driving mode coordinates the vehicle’s control systems to deliver a high performance driving experience.”

Also, I can use ‘Dynamic Launch’ (instrument panel turns red) and this is the description and procedure for it........"Dynamic launch enhances vehicle acceleration and automatic gear changes during launch."

To activate, make sure that:

The vehicle is stationary.

The engine is running.

The steering is in the straight ahead position.

Dynamic driving mode is engaged.

Press the brake pedal and hold with the left foot.

Select either Drive (D) or Sport (S).

Using the right foot, lightly press the accelerator pedal until the Message centre displays ‘DYNAMIC LAUNCH READY’.

Release the brake pedal then quickly press the accelerator pedal to the kickdown position. The Message centre will display ‘DYNAMIC LAUNCH ACTIVE’.

(Dynamic launch is not fitted to all vehicle derivatives).

For those that have ‘Dynamic Launch’, does anyone ever use this as it’s fiddlier than just pulling the ‘Dynamic’ switch on the centre console?

Dynamic launch is just that - a way to launch the car

After you’ve ‘launched’ the car is then in normal dynamic mode.

I’ve used it once or twice to have some fun but it’s a bit gimmicky, transmission stops doing rev matching in gears 1-3 which provides a little more go. It’s not a clever system like modern day launch controls

I would agree - something to try once or twice maybe but will put extra strain on the transmission.

If you were to use it a lot it might turn into Dynamic Lunch!

Interestingly, Dynamic Launch isn't available on the V8, but is on the 4-pot.

Thanks for your replies.

If, after using the ‘Dynamic Launch’ method, the car is then in normal ‘Dynamic’ mode, it's not really much use to me. I don’t exactly drive the car like a Formula 1 driver anyway, even though I do give it a blast now and again!

I certainly don’t want a ‘Dynamic Lunch’ either so I’ll avoid this fiddly method.

Not sure why ‘Dynamic Launch’ isn’t available on the V8 but I don't think you're missing much?

With the V8 you just floor the throttle and it takes off. Which is probably what happens with the other engines, too, so not really a lot of point, as you say. Maybe just Jaguar ticking a spec. box against the competition.

Yep, mine takes off for sure.

Could well be Jaguar ticking a spec box!
