The chrome moulding at the bottom of the rear quarter panel window glass (driver’s side) is starting to lift away from the bodywork. I don’t want to change it as the moulding comes in one large piece which goes from the front to the rear of the car.

Has anybody got any ideas on how to secure the moulding back in place e.g double sided sticky tape etc?

Thanks

Hmm - wonder if it's related to your rubber window dot.

Are people only seeing those on coupes?

I think you might struggle to lift the trim up enough to insert tape without deforming it, but if you do try that go for a quality 3M tape that retains its strength under water. I might be more inclined to try a blob of epoxy glue and a strong weight on the trim overnight.

Nope, it isn't related to the rubber window dot as I have one in exactly the same position on both sides of the car. The same chrome moulding on the passenger side is sitting perfectly.

Some other members have also said they have these rubber dots in the same position on the rear quarter panel window glass on the coupes.

I've tried lifting the chrome moulding slightly without deforming it and I may be able to slide some double sided sticky tape underneath. I'll have to wait for a dry day before doing the job and I'll also use a hairdryer to get rid of any moisture before applying the tape.

I have this strong double sided sticky tape (see photo) which I use for various jobs. Do you reckon this will do the trick?

If it doesn't work, I could try a blob of epoxy (2 pack) glue and a heavy weight on the moulding overnight, as you suggest.

Alternatively I could use something like packaging/masking tape along the top of the moulding and down the 'B' pillar to hold the moulding in position until the glue has set.

If that's the slightly rubbery tape I've found it can be a bit "bouncy" due to its thickness, so not sure if it will be ideal.

Worth a first try though, in the method you mention.

Ok thanks, I'll give it a go.

Just looked up the double sided sticky tape that I have on ebay and it's described as.........."Black Super Strong Sticky Waterproof Adhesive Foam Car Body Double Sided Tape."

It says that it can be used for car number plates, trims, etc.

Hopefully it will do the trick!

Expect mixed results with Ebay trash - Try 3M Emblem foam tape, it's king.

I use 0.5mm (you can get different thickness of foam) for car badges and it sticks like s**t to a blanket. Same stuff is used on tyre weights.

A small piece cutoff will hold that in place no problem.

Ok thanks.

I bought the double sided sticky tape from GMF Motor Factors but I looked it up on ebay to get a full description. I've recently used it on a small job and it has stuck really well.

It's probably not as good as 3M though.

Are any of these links showing the 3M tape that you recommend?

I used 3M VHB double sided tape:

The 'secret' to a good bond is not having too thick a foam layer.

Thanks for the info and link.

I'll be ordering that 3M tape this evening.

Don't mean to be picky but looking at your vehicle information it says 'Porterfield RS-4 Carbon Kevlar pads'

Should this be 'Porterfield R4-S Carbon Kevlar pads' ?

My Mrs. swears by mitre glue, basically super with an activator. She uses it on everything plastic, rubber, wood..leaves no stain even on pure white surfaces. Perhaps test it on something else. Apply the super glue or Cyanoacrylate Adhesive plus activator..DONT QUOTE ME OR USE IT ON MY RECOMMENDATION but she sweras by it. As I said test it first on something throw away.
