Same here. Surrounded by trees and nowhere to put the car out of the way. Storm Desmond a few years ago, ripped slates from my roof and they landed on my Defenders front wing and bonnet, just missing my F Type.

That's horrible...
On the positive side it's a car not people injured. Former can fairly easily be replaced with just a bit of financial pain

I have a garden with trees everywhere... .. in 2018 I felt a bit odd during high winds, I saw the fir trees oscillating in the wind.
So I moved the car that was parked there : five minutes later the top of two trees [ each pieces of 7m ] broke and crashed in the
area where the car had been parked. Same week I let the guy with the chain saw cut the top 7m of all other fir trees as a precaution..

Dan, if you ever “feel a bit odd” about my car please let me know!

A lucky escape

That is really bad. You must feel awful. Please let use know how you get along with the insurance/replacement etc. Even if the car's replaced, losing something you've grown fond of is heartbreaking and the insurance will never pay near what the actual car is worth to that spec.

My insurance will only pay out half of what it will cost me to replace mine brand new with the same level of spec !

But you have GAP insurance? ;)

@ SCM,
I don't have GAP insurance and in fact never thought of investigating that here in South Africa. It's not something we typically look at. Over here we have a "market value" which is what the car's worth after depreciation etc based on age and that's what the insurers use as the "pay out value" in the event of total loss.
I'll have a look if anyone offers a GAP cover.
But anyway, it's still not something any of us want to go through. I hope Chris keeps us UTD on how it pans out.

Same in the UK. GAP insurance pays out the difference between what the insurers pay and the invoice value. As you say, hope it's never needed.

Looking at the first post, this was passed on by a member on here having seen it elsewhere.
The actual ownerof the car doesn't appear to be a member so you may not find out.
