Hello all,
I'm seriously thinking about buying a pre-owned F-Type S, year 2013/14.

Were there any recalls for these models and if there were how can I check that these were carried out when I see a car I want to buy?

Are there any particular areas, apart from a good service history, that I need to check/ look out for when viewing an F-Type S to avoid any later expensive repair/replacement costs?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

If you are considering selling your own, then please message me.

Regards, Paul

Hi Paul,

Good choice of vehicle that you are thinking of buying.

Be sure to have the car put up on a ramp so you can fully inspect the underside. Many F-Types are prone to rust corrosion on the underbody subframe components and cross braces. This is due to insufficient Zinc-Nickel plating on the components.

You can use this website to check if a vehicle, part or accessory has been recalled.......

Hi RPSN and simpleR, many thanks for your quick replies.

Will definately use your services simpleR when the time comes if that's okay :)

RPSN, re subframe components/cross braces rusting issue, would you know how owners commonly address this eg is there a tried and tested treatment/process that F-Type owners have previously discussed and use please?

There are a few topics about the underbody brace corrosion on this forum. Here’s one of them........

Which ‘S’ you look at? V6S or V8S?

With a 6/7 year old F Type as with any sports car you should be buying on service record, condition and desired spec.
There are bargains if you buy private, as well as some owners who forget depreciation and demand way too much.
Dealer will most likely be non JLR so you could get a car with some consumer protection and an aftermarket warranty, but they do also attract the more tired lower spec. models

Very little goes wrong. Subframe rust mentioned but it’s only superficial, side windows get scratched due to poor wiper seal design. We’re replaced foc on many cars. Centre vents can rattle. Hoods can look tired at that age if lived outside

S is a good choice with more power and LSD. Make sure you get active exhaust button.

I’d look at a few (when you can travel) and you’ll soon see what’s good and the right price
