I'm seriously thinking about buying a pre-owned F-Type S, year 2013/14.

Are there any particular areas, apart from a good service history, that I need to check/ look out for when viewing an F-Type S to avoid any later expensive repair/replacement costs?

Here’s a photo of the rear subframe corrosion on a 2013 Jaguar F-Type Convertible.

Well worth looking out for when searching for your car.

See link from the owner.......

That’s an extreme example...

Many F-Types are weekend only toys. To this end I’d wait & find a low mileage garage queen. As someone else has commented, private sale, especially at moment, might throw up a surprise. Due diligence is key

A UK buyer just purchased a 2015 V8 R with only 15k on it. Looks brand new 👍

Wanted to make you aware that even if the car looks immaculate, the underside of the vehicle (mainly subframe and cross braces) could be heavily corroded.

As the owner of that F-Type said........”Just bought a 2013 Jaguar F Type Convertible. Absolutely stunning." He had a shock when he noticed the subframe corrosion.

If you were interested in buying a car which is exhibiting underbody corrosion of this type, you could insist that the affected parts are replaced or repaired as part of the deal. Alternatively you could pay a lower price for the vehicle and arrange this yourself.

Of course, you may find a vehicle which is showing no or very little signs of underbody corrosion but at least you know this is something to look out for before parting with a fair chunk of money.

I think more importantly with the lack of use is seals, bearing and the like drying out and then early failure.

Look up this thread (joining f type ranks...) which has some good detail in it (including my list of things you can hear/ see prior to buying)

PS- my cross braces looked like this pre-treatment...viewtopic.php?f=27&t=3085&p=30415#p30415
