So... I thought I'd make the most of the new "freedoms" and go for a spirited drive this afternoon. My 1st proper drive for 10 weeks.

A3. Not a single car in front of me. Straight road. Doing 70ish. Floored it. Next thing I see is flashing blue lights in my mirror.

Policeman was very nice. I was very apologetic and embarrassed.

I'm being reported for excess speed only, but it was well above 100mph.

Court summons. I'm expecting a ban and a massive fine. I deserve it.

I'm thoroughly pissed off with myself.

Be careful. Be sensible. Be safe.

Gutted for you!

Excess speeding is defined as breaking the speed limit by 20 mph or more.

From what I’ve read, drivers caught speeding at over 100 mph are referred to court, where magistrates have the discretion to issue a driving ban of between 7 to 56 days or six penalty points on the driver’s licence. There will also be a fine, which is means tested, and can range from £100 to £1,000 for non–motorway offences, and up to £2,500 for motorway offences.

Would be nice to see you get away with it but that could be wishful thinking.

It’s a warning to many of us!

Oh Nooooo!

Helen has continued ploughing up and down the A27/M27 every week and said the camera vans had appeared out and about quite early on in the lockdown, when the roads were pretty much deserted. She said she was lucky to begin with, as the roads were so empty it was easy to find yourself travelling faster than usual.

I got caught last year doing 88mph (indicated 90mph) so watch out as these speedo's don't seem to have much margin for error,

Keeping my fingers crossed for you Kev.

Ouch, but at least you’re pragmatic to accept it and not bleat about police, no danger, etc.
Guess you just have to watch the letterbox for the next few weeks and then

All too easy in these cars to over enjoy the thrill of acceleration that quickly becomes excess speed

Fingers crossed ... just a waiting game now for the letter to pop through the letterbox. But about 3 years ago on the way to work in our Mini Cooper again I was the only car on the road and was doing 48 in a 30 zone .. got caught by a police officer 👮‍♀️ with a temporary speed gun . Luckily I had the option for a speed awareness course so obviously took that option.... you never know might be some hope :?:

There but for the grace of God goes us all.
A salutary lesson which I will try to remember when next I venture out.

Sorry to here that Kev, I got 6 points and £250 fine for doing 90mph on Boxing Day Xmas before last. I was visiting my father in Scotland virtually no traffic on the road. Traffic officer said I exceeded the speed limit in the overtaking lane. I used a traffic Lawer to deal with the court hearing.

Fingers crossed for you . Just bad luck we've all done it.
On a previous post someone asked about tuning there V8 and I ask why as these cars are already way too quick for the roads , put your foot to the floor and 100mph is soon passed.
Good luck.

Sorry to hear that Kev, fingers crossed for you too mate,
Our daughter has just arrived home from a 30 minute drive and she said there are a lot of police out on the roads around here, not sure if they’re out monitoring passenger numbers at the moment but I think we all need to be aware...
Good luck mate.

Sorry to hear bad news. The A453 in Nottingham appears to formed into unofficial extension to Donington Park. Quite a few nice roads are very very tempting aren't they.

I would advise you get a specialist solicitor if you don't want to lose your license. An old colleague at work got caught by police car doing over 100 on single A road (60 limit). This was about 3 years ago. He was given three choices.

1) Plead guilty by post or go to court and plead guilty, small fine and lose your license for 12 to 24 months.

2) Pay the solicitor £2000 and you'll keep your license. Points and a hefty fine.

3) Pay £6000 and they would try and make it go away altogether and they seemed pretty confident of that as well.

He went with the £2000 option. He had a list of things he had to do. Pictures, character references etc. He kept his license. 6 points and £800 fine plus court costs. A good solicitor would be key to keeping your license.

Fingers crossed for you.
