Thank you Malbec for a full and detailed reply to my questions, it really is much appreciated.
I am sure you are correct that my system is almost certainly Bosch despite the Navigation / CD unit being located behind the panel between the seats.

I think having to remove the front screen and assemblies is a little beyond my capabilities, I would loath to damage the leather trim or break clips. So I will have to find a specialist to do the install. I will mention the minor issue of having to press the Home button to activate the rear view camera. I also read somewhere that a 1/2 metre USB extension cable is required for a front screen install, surprising its not included in the kit.

I noticed that there is a box on the order form for a discount code, would you happen to know if such a code is available?

Thank you very much

You only need an “ extension” cable if you don’t already have a long USB cable. They supply a short female cable into which you plug your USB cable. How long you need depends upon where you want your phone to be. Their female cable will be buried behind the screen so you will need to think about where to put the phone. These cables are readily available anyway, they are always useful as is an extension one. I guess adding an extension cable will bring the USB “outside” so you can then choose a suitable length of USB to go to the phone. Their female USB will be buried behind the dash so you must connect to it before reassemble.
I think when I emailed them with my vin and photo of the screen,,,essential you do this... they sent me a code which I think was £20 off. But perhaps it was on their home screen?
There are a number of YouTube videos showing how to remove the trim and UAD supply a tool, but I understand your reluctance. I was dead lucky to have the Harman unit.
If the unit between the seats doesn’t say Harman then it isn’t, if you see what I mean.
I was not going to go for CarPlay since I didn’t want to disassemble the car. I was quite happy having Waze at eye level on my phone. However when I saw how easy it was in my case to do it, I went ahead.
Having seen the result I would now take the dash apart and do it. You get both CarPlay and the original screen. No one would ever know you had added it !
I’m sure it will go well.
PS get a ground loop isolator to fit inline with the aux cable, again it will be buried behind the screen. The aux cable is nothing to do with the socket in the armrest...all will be clear.
Cheap enough on amazon. I fitted one due to online advice but have no idea if it were necessary. In your case is will be buried, so better to be sure.

Thanks As I will not be installing the kit can you advise on the best Ground loop Isolator to get, most look like they are connected by mini jack. I would imagine a solid connector would be more practical if it is part of the loom.

I did speak with the supplier on the issue of activating the reversing camera, they were a little vague on this one, they indicated it was more likely to work automatically on the earlier Bosch systems. They did say that there was a fix but suggested that it might be easier to switch back to the home screen and then activate the camera.

I have taken the plunge and ordered a Unique Audio Apple / Android car kit for my F-Type R Coupe. My fitment is behind the front screen and having watched the UA video several times the trim removal seems not too bad!

What is missing from the video is how to remove the trim panel that surrounds the gear selector, I have looked online and can find nothing. I should be most grateful for some help.

Thanks

It is quite straight-forward - just held on with 4 clips if I remember correctly.

If you get yourself a set of trim removal tools, and just take a bit of care to do things gently, you should have no trouble.

I was up for one of these but sent in my VIN and apparently my MY18 17 reg car has an unusual ICM which was only installed in a small number of cars before the 10 inch screen becamse available, and the Unique Auto Developments CarPlay unit won't work with it.

The good news is that they are developing one for this ICM and it may be available in about 3 months.

Interesting stuff - can you add a wireless dongle to the install so that you don't have to run the usb socket back into the cabin? I'm after a solution to put Apple CarPlay in to my car, but would like to be wireless...

The UAD kit is wireless. You need the wire for initial set up. Wireless afterwards.
