Hi all

I've had a search for this on this and other forums and it seems to be only older replies and questions so wondering whether things have moved on in recent years/months. My F-type hasn't got cruise control and I was wondering whether anyone know of anywhere (main dealer or not) that retro fits it. My steering wheel doesn't have the buttons so assuming it'll be a replacement wheel etc. Not something I'd ever try to undertake on my own but wondering whether there's anywhere that provides the service. Know it wouldn't be cheap by the way.

Thanks

I suspect that, while what you're after is certainly possible if you're prepared to throw enough money at it, it will probably be more cost effectrive to swap your car for one that has all the features you want.

Cannot comment of the F Type specifically but frequently as I have done in the past on BMW's is to just fit the buttons as everything else is in place. No software, coding or cables. You may be just as lucky with the F Type

Issue with Jaguars is that sometimes the different switch pads on different steering wheels are not compatible between car years. I experienced this swapping a standard wheel to an SVR.

It may not on the surface seem the easiest way, but I would source a cheap wheel with the controls and do a test swap. Less than an hours work end to end to swap and replace back if it fails. If it works retrofit the button pack to your own wheel and if it fails sell for a bit less less than paid, or if from Ebay in many instances return it just for the cost of posting

Thanks CJ10jeeper. I’ve bought a new right side switch pad from eBay for £80 so the buttons will at least be in place and then the next step is to try and link it up I guess. I’ve asked the same question to Harwoods Chichester Jaguar - shock horror still no reply, which is par for the course from them to be honest!

I'm no authority on this but Cruise was in my list of must haves, it's a licence saver. I did find the ideal car without it and did some questioning. Both specialists I talked to said that the cars are all built to spec and wiring looms are bespoke to each car. I found it hard to fathom but both garages said the same thing and one was trying to sell me the car!

In other words a retrofit is probably possible but not financially viable. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

In a VW Passat all I had to do was buy the third stalk. The dealer did it for about £80, not even sure if it needed coding back then.

that's my understanding as well, everything is unique to the car. I'd guess something like a heated steering wheel could be retrofitted as it just needs power, but cruise control is a different matter.

I did fit cruise control to a couple of my Volvo's in the past, but that was 30 or more years ago, when it was all ropes and pulleys (literally ...)

I'm not sure I buy this argument. In general it's cheaper to have much of the loom the same that custom create for every variation.
For example the heated steering wheel requires a module to be fitted. The loom is already there to provide the electronic connection to the steering wheel buttons, therefore it is already wired through the clockspring and the heavy power loom for high amperage there to just plug into the module.

Similarly I believe a week or so ago someone posted that they simply swapped door switch panels to have full memory operation of their seats

I swapped out rear fog and reversing lights from old filament bulb units to multi function LED units and the harness was compatible with no coding

Where I would agree is that some makes are certainly more supportive of components being later added. BMW for example you can pretty much fit anything, certainly on those I ran between 2000 and 2018. Cruise control was just add the stalk like you others mention

Maybe, but during my factory tour in January it was clear that many parts including wiring loom were just what was required for that car.

Like others have said I was told that the wiring loom is bespoke to each car dependant on the spec ordered, but I agree that some components would be too expensive to do that way so will be able to cope with any spec.

I guess we’ll find out soon enough when he tries the switch pack in the steering wheel! It’s not too expensive to try it and the part can be sold on if it doesn’t work.
