Hi all,
I am considering to buy a Jag F Type R 2016.
Its almost out of warranty, and i am relatively handy at servicing my own cars, however, my question is if the F type Jag is easy to service / work on or it needs a specialist jag dealer with specialist tools etc.
My plan would be to buy parts online and do my own maintenance.
Thanks in advance

No, you can DIY if you like a challenge.

They are very tight to work on, but not impossible, just frustrating.

For plugs, oil and rear diff, air filters etc I have found the following useful, or rather, essential :

1. Octopus like, lady fingers
2. Double jointed elbows
3. Patients of a Saint
4. String with Neodym magnet on the end (for picking up tools out of the under tray)
5. Hooojmungous swear pot
6. Plasters
7. All the Torx you can find
8. Long, long socket extensions with about 30 - 40° wobble
9. Steel plated knuckles
10. Decent DVM for tracing leckie faults
11. iCarsoft LR Ver2.0 - Diagnostics
12. Blood transfusion
13. 1 off 4'' Adjustable (for whipping off the +ve terminal for resetting the 'brain')
14. Large recliner (so that the therapist can get you into posItion)

Oh, did I mention they were a PITA?
Yes, but very satisfying when all's done.

Be interested to know how you get on...RWD I hope?

Hi guys appreciate the feedback. Im almost there. Its done 45k miles. Looks and sounds all together. Its a AWD i believe but will check that. I have no issue on challenge maintaining. Specialist tools i guess are available? The other challenge i have is im in the middle east and the local dealer aint that great so will go it alone. If i can get the spares, a good maintenance book haynes or similar will be great.
I guess your comment RWD means there issues with tbe AWD?

Pay for a subscription to Topix.
That's the electronic manuals...search online.
Once saved, they are invaluable.

I'm sure it must be RWD for that year, was interested to know.

Working out in the Middle East myself I saw only a couple.
There's more in the UAE especially at Yas Marina circuit!

Thanks again, im in qatar. I believe from what u have given as an over view its doable without having to keep relying on the dealer, although challenging. I was abit concerned if too high tech i would not be able to do much. I certainly will get the diagnostics kit plus the subscription for maintenance manual. Already have the swear box and patience of a saint so hope am good to go. Its done 45k mileage not sure when the next major service will be. I just like the car so much i really cant resist it.
