Post by T50 YOX » Sun May 02, 2021 9:43 am

After buying a set off Tewy second hand took them to a friend and had them shot blasted etched , under sealed then painted for extra protection.Yesterday I had the use of another friendโ€™s ramp so set about changing them pretty straight forward while I was at it cleaned up the rear subframe and dinitroled all hidden crevices like new again underneath again a few pics

Brill, like it. It's on my list of to do's. Only sprayed mine up with anti corrosion formula at the moment but want this type of job doing before this winter.

Hi,
Glad to see you have now fitted the braces I sold you. Removing the braces is the only way to tackle this job so it must be satisfying doing yourself. Since I did mine I have had an issue with the exhaust valves so Jaguar is replacing the backbox this coming week. I will have to stop reading all of the issues people have because my car is a 3.0 V6 manual and apparently the clutch/flywheel are at their 4th generation. My car is not experiencing any clutch slippage but knowing there has been some early failures makes you careful on rapid acceleration from stand still.

Please let me know when you have them up for sale. Where to collect and how much?
Have you considered having them galvanised?

Hi 01286p I did consider having them galvanised but if they get chipped water gets underneath and starts coroding again, thatโ€™s why decided to have them etched undersealed and painted to give it a bit more durability they should be ready for next weekend .I live in Barnsley s Yorkshire and would be up for sale at ยฃ250 if interested private message me and can give you my contact details could possibly meet halfway cheers tony

Hi Tony, did you use new bolts when you replaced the braces or the old ones? It looks like some of them bolt into aluminium and Iโ€™ve previously been told that if you reuse steel bolts you increase the risk of galvanic corrosion because some of the zinc plating will have been damaged. I think there is some paste you can get to put on the threads beforehand, although Iโ€™m not certain about this.

Iโ€™ll try and get better information but I know that some use tef-gel on the threads to prevent galvanic corrosion when reusing steel bolts, but the best solution seems to be using new zinc plated bolts each time.
