My BMW Z4 used to eat a bit of oil so I would carry a bottle in the boot to give it a bit of a top up now and then when the light came on.

Is this necessary with the FType (V6) and does anybody carry a bottle of oil in case of the oil light coming on ?

Over 4yrs old, 29500 miles. Always warmed up properly.

Check oil weekly. Never used a drop and always on max line on computer display.

And therefore don't carry any with me.

None of my Jaguar engines (4 of them including the F-Type) never used oil beween services, certainly not enough to need topping up. And I think if the oil light does come on you have microseconds to turn it off before it destroys itself. Just keep an eye on the level, it's easy to do before you fire it up, same with the tyre pressures.

Actually, one of my Jaguar engines (2004 XKR 4.2) did need "topping up" once - an oil pipe burst as I was approaching home and dropped all its oil on the ground. I had it trailered to my indie who replaced the pipe, filled up with oil and gingerly turned it over. He said it made a few "interesting" noises initially, but once the oil had circulated it ran sweetly. Precautionary oil change after 500 miles - no sign of engine debris and it was fine after that. These engines are pretty tough. That happened after over 90,000 miles, too, so I forgave it. ;)

Is the vertical white bar the level ?

So in this photo suggesting my level is just on the boundary of too much ?

Yes and that is correct. On max and saying "OK".
(Exactly how mine has been for 4yrs).

Never used a drop between services on a 2014 50k+ V6S
Wouldn’t even consider carrying oil and if it was using any I’d want to find out why, not just top up

Don’t think I have had an oil issue in many years. Used to have oil in the garage back 30 years ago for cars that would need topping up, but never had a problem between services with modern cars.
