Think I am going to ride out the storm…
You only "lose" money on a car when you sell it. If you're looking for an investment, don't buy a car. And you're already taking my advice.

Ha, that’s the key, just buy it and keep forever then in theory now money is lost. Man maths is a wonderful thing

Actually the F Type is the first car that I have kept over 5 years. Most have barely lasted two. I figure in relative terms I will lose about 10% per annum which is pretty good going, as opposed to 20% per annum shifting out of them after 2 years.

I intend to keep my F-Type forever! Mind you, I felt that way about my 2010 XKR, but the F-Type was a step up. I can't think of any cars that are better than the F-Type, and if Jaguar goes down the electric path I can't see that changing ....BruceTheQuail wrote: ↑Sun Jul 04, 2021 11:19 am Actually the F Type is the first car that I have kept over 5 years.
I'd rather be driving my F-Type than counting my money!

Had a Ferrari 360 F1 for 10 years and loved it. Sold it in Feb last year and missed a toy so much I bought the f type. Wow am I ever glad I did!
Compared to the ferrari the jag is so much more nicer to drive and ride in!
You lose money on cars and that’s all there is to it. If you don’t like losing money don’t buy a car like this that’s for sure. Ferrari sold for same price I paid for it but cost 30k on servicing over 10 years! Would I have another - nope! Am I glad I did it- absolutely! I used it for about 3k miles a year and everyone was an amazing ride out! Love the cars and enjoy them, life’s far to short to worry about it as long as you have a sensible approach
Get the cars out and use them

Valuations vary wildly depending on mileage (about 50k?) and condition (presuming tip top, two keys, 12 month MOT, FJSH?) apparently you might be able to push £33k in a private sale if its 100% perfect. Jaguar on part chop would be £24-£26 as obviously they need to sell it on.Tewy wrote: ↑Sun Jul 04, 2021 12:41 am It is a stunning car but what do you think it is worth. I am willing to sell it but then what do I buy that gives you so much pleasure. You may say just keep it but I am a person that likes to improve a car and I feel I have maximised the the amount of work that I can afford to spend on this vehicle.

If you are selling a car now it’s a great time and if you can get a discount off a new one should go for it.
Done three deals in the last couple of months on mine, wife’s and daughters cars. Got silly money for ours and had great prices off new ones. In my mind the extra money has already offset the depreciation on the new cars.
Best deal was my Macan which sold for 15k more than it would have under normal circumstances and more than I paid for it. Bought already heavily discounted Jag with the cash. To me even if the jag losing 15k I’m just back where I started.
Only losers right now are those buying without having gained in a part exchange

I intend to keep my F-Type for around 4 years and expect to lose money on it. It is part of the cost of car ownership, they aren't investment items (with a few exceptions). It is like going to the casino, I only gamble what I can afford to lose and have some fun.
