I recently noticed there’s a small button underneath the UK passenger side wing mirror on my car but there isn’t one on the driver’s side?

As I have the wing mirror auto-dip on reverse feature, I’m thinking it may be something to do with this as it’s on the same side? Does anyone know what it's actually for? I can also see some electrical wiring in the narrow gap between the bottom edge of the mirror glass and holder which is directly above the button. There is no wiring visible in the same location on the driver’s side mirror.

Could anyone check to see if they have this small button and if so, is it only underneath the UK passenger side wing mirror? Also could they confirm whether or not they have the wing mirror auto-dip on reverse feature?

The top picture shows the button underneath the passenger side wing mirror and the middle pic shows the wiring above it. The bottom pic shows the driver’s side wing mirror with no button underneath it.

TIA

MY18, UK, with wing mirror auto dip and yes mine is same as yours based on pictures. Passenger side with and drivers side without a pretuding bump of plastic.

Mine is not a button though. It doesn't move.

Cheers.

I called it a button as it looks like it could be one? I haven’t tried pressing it in too hard though in case it does something to the wing mirror.

It must be there for a reason.....I’m wondering what its purpose is?

Would be interesting to find out whether or not cars without the wing mirror auto-dip on reverse feature also have this button/plastic bump which is located underneath the UK passenger side wing mirror?

Just did some googling.
Looks like it's a temperature sensor

Yes that's correct.

AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR. SENSOR - AIR TEMPERATURE.

A sensor that reads outside air temperature.

Many thanks guys 👍

The ‘Ambient air temperature sensor’ is shown as item number 7 in the screenshot and this is the link to it.....

I’ve also attached a pic of the sensor off ebay.
