I assume that my 2021 will have maps to cover France?
Any tips would be appreciated as I have not tried it yet.

Yes, you will also have free updates for your maps for 3 years from first registration. This covers Europe and Russia.

The updates are available to download through this website www.jaguar.here.com. it requires a PC or Mac and a memory stick (64mb usually). The server is slow and can take an hour to download even with fast broadband

Last time I updated the European maps I needed a memory stick with just short of 32Gb.

They always seem to be around that sort of size. Last time it was 33mb kuyto be awkward. The size of the update file is always given in the menu.

Does anyone know if there's an alternative map system for updates? I'm reluctant to pay £80 odd each time I want to update like I did this year

I believe the downloads contain a key code that links the update to the car/VIN. @here.com itself is a pretty generic service user across multiple manufacturers. Because of this I'm not sure if there are alternatives to update the inbuilt nav.

There were previously two price options £80 for 1 year and £129 for 3 years.

Bugger. I must have missed that option 😔 with all the road works and new builds etc it's worth regular upgrades.

Perhaps I'm just wrong but my updates to my 2021 car happen through the app on my phone and these seem to sync with the car. I get the message a new map is available and I download it on the mobile phone app and it just works.

If you have OTA updates for maps as well as software, that's a lot less faffing about. Although, the owners manual for the latest cars (2024MY) still mentions using a memory stick for updates.

I know that the OTA update facility for software, when launched, was backwards compatible for some model years. Perhaps there has been something released for this
