Hi all,

Hoping someone may be able to advise.

I recently had an oil service completed at a main Jaguar dealer (Lookers Jaguar Chelmsford Service Centre).
The actual service it needed to keep with the schedule would've been the 120 month service, but as that was coming in around £1300, I couldn't afford it at the time, so I opted just for a basic oil service for now and will have the other items sorted next year instead.

Since having the oil change service completed, I'm still seeing the message notification on the dash stating service required in 500 miles.

I emailed the dealer regarding this as I assumed they just forgot to reset it, but they actually replied with the following instead:

"So you had an oil service which will not turn off the service light, the vehicle has to have a full service for the service required light to be switched off due to your vehicle only having an oil service this light will remain on unfortunately."

This sounds like absolute nonsense to me, but before I respond to them with full force, I just wanted to check with the experts on here.

I know it's only a very minor thing, but it still irritates me.

Thanks.

If you want to get rid of the message, try this:

Turn on ignition (foot off brake so engine doesn't start)
Open the bonnet and the driver's door
Stand on the brake AND throttle for 15 seconds
Turn off ignition

Service indicator should be reset

Wow, really?
I'll give that a go.

Thanks!

It sometimes takes a couple of goes to get it to work, but it's done the trick in my MY18 a few times. And the bonnet doesn't have to be raised, just "unpopped".

I often find with lookers in Chelmsford the price for a service booked through the Jaguar website is significantly less then what they quote over the phone.

No chain garage, specialist or dealership that I know will ever reset the service reminder after an oil service only for compliance reasons. That's another reason to invest in an OBD reader that allows you to control the reminder.
