Hi all,

I was previously the proud owner of a 2014 V8 S in ultimate black which was unfortunately stolen last month. I am in the market for a replacement and have decided to upgrade to an early R.

I have found one which is confusing me a bit. It's marked as a 2014 model, but was registered in 2016. I have called the dealership and they tell me that it was an early demo car for Jag, which they later sold. They assure me that it has AWD, hydraulic steering, an unchanged exhaust (i.e. the loudest one), etc, but I'm finding it tough to find any example like this. The dealership has sent me the full spec sheet (pics attached), which seems to list the model as "V8 S", and then has items on the spec list like "Derivative badges - R AWD". Knowing that the early F-Type Rs were basically identical to the V8 S that preceded it, just with a different engine tune, do you think it's possible that this was converted from a V8S to an R? In that case how have they changed the drivetrain? It all seems a bit suspicious to me so I'm really hoping someone here can help me out.

I'm travelling up to see it this weekend, and I've organised an RAC inspection which I hope will confirm things like hydraulic vs electric steering etc. It would be amazing if everything checks out, since it's basically the perfect spec for me, it's a good price, and I want AWD, unmodified exhaust and hydraulic steering all in one F-Type R if possible.

Thanks!

Sorry to hear of the stolen one. What was the reg and was it recovered?

What's the reg of the proposed replacement and I'll have a look.

It is car 18534 which is an early AWD V8R.

The PDI was done by Jaguar on 6th Nov 2014. It was not seen again until 12th Aug 2016 when it was with Copart (Special Vehicle Operations) for its first service with a recorded mileage of 257. It was then registered in the UK from May 2016 with DVSA. And then next appears on 17th May 2017 in York with just 398 miles on the clock. The 3rd service was then over 1yr overdue, as was the 4th service and its currently 166 days overdue again.

Normally Jaguar cars are on VA or VE plates. The only time I've seen AWD cars this early is the first batch that went abroad to race tracks for magazines or vMax (but that was SVR's) and COPART brought them back. The only other example on this forum was a v6s manual which we managed to confirm however they dont run with number plates. Unsure on odometers.

Such as this - https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/ja ... %A9-review (not the car in question - just an example)
Such as this - https://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/jag ... irst-drive (again not the car in question - just an example)

I cannot find anything on this car in particular and maybe it did stay in UK as a demo but unsure why it ended up at COPART. Unable to help on this occasion.

I was relatively confident it would of been one of the 64 plate R AWD cars destined for Estoril track but I can only find V plate cars and none in black.

Maybe it never went and was a Jaguar demo car elsewhere. The very low mileage (257) would suggest it never went as the cars that did go all did 2000-3000 miles although the timelines match.

I’m not an expert and not familiar with things like simpleR is but I was reading the spec sheet and everything points to it being the later “R” version. It states the power as 550PS. The original v8 S had around 490 I think. I can’t see where it says “V8 S” anywhere? It says “V8 S/C” but the S/C is just short for “Super Charged” I think.

Have you got any photos of it?

I agree that it's probably an R AWD, the problem I'm having is understanding if it has hydraulic steering (which I'd prefer) when everything points to R AWDs all having the electric steering.

I agree, but like I said in my previous reply to someone else I just can't tell why they're saying it has hydraulic steering.

It's the one at this link: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-detail ... ble&page=1

When you look at it pop the bonnet and look for the steering fluid reservoir. ;)
