The XF has gone and got scratched.

It's deep and just wondered if anyone had tried touching up IRR using chipex?

Only stone chips. The colour was a near enough perfect match (paintz4u). But the metal flake variation gives it away closer up

Yep, it’s because when you apply metallic paint with a brush all the flakes end up orientated the same way.
For best results use a pointy touch up stick and dab at the area - a bit like Monet would :D
Overfill the scratch, leave for a week, then rub back down to remove the top layer, which should leave more natural orientated paint. Then you can lacquer, leave, and rub down that too.
Long process but the results are worth the effort.

Yes, I see the pointy things in the chpex kit (aka cocktail sticks)!

I don't trust myself with a pointy thing!

Yep, to be honest I’ve not done it myself.
It was a quality panel shop who did it for me while they had the car in for a nose cone re-spray - which was just before someone hit me and I needed a new nose cone

Respected place and they did a great job on a 1 cm ragged scratch.

Maybe I should have said cutting rather than rubbing though.
