Just posted a question about this. Wonder how a delayed service will impact warranties?

Although official statistics show that China has defeated the Coronavirus, this could turn out to be premature.

There is a worry that leaders have prioritised restarting the economy over containing the virus, which could lead to another outbreak.

Yes that is a worry.

This lockdown will achieve very little towards the ultimate necessity of herd immunity and simply extends the pain of having to scurry back inside whenever there is a fresh outbreak until a vaccination or quick tests are developed.

Does it not make more sense to quarantine those at risk at home, in hotels or build dedicated facilities or allocate hospitals to vunerable people.

And then get on with building up the required herd immunity amongst those who won't require NHS treatment.

Well done simpleR, that's exactly my train of thought.

Invest all the extra measures in protecting the vunerable and leave the healthy, working age people to continue. This builds up the heard immunity whilst allowing more money to be spent on a smaller "at risk" group of people.

The only fly in the ointment is the occasional story of a few younger people (30's or 40's) that have died from it, but it's not clear if they had other medical conditions.

Very much enjoyed the Jag on some quiter roads but that's over now for 3 weeks. Stay safe all.

Tough decision, depending on which paper you read deaths from Flu are 8,000 to 17,000 per annum in England and/or UK. The risk with Covid19 is that it could be milllions hence the lock down.

Perhaps in 3 weeks time they might keep the "at risk" group at home or locked away whilst the rest of the country attempts a reboot. No country can survive economically with a continued shutdown or worse still another shutdown in a few months or every few months.

There is also a lot of fake news around deaths. The bbc news said last night that all UK deaths over the past 3 days have been people with underlying health issues (IE the "at risk" group).

Apparently in Italy they have been classifying all deaths as related to the virus if the patient tests positive for the virus even if the virus wasn't the cause of death.
Just some interesting figures from the Office of National statistics comparing deaths from respiratory disease each week in February this year to 2019 when we didn't have the virus.
Obviously March figures may be higher but it gives a bit of perspective about what happens "normally".
Apparently figures in 2018 with the beast from the East were even worse.

Plus have a look at "Hong Kong Flu" which hit us in 1968/9 and caused 80,000 deaths in the UK alone.

Taken from the article.......

“The strategy, an attempt to build herd immunity, involved allowing enough of us who are going to get mild illness to become immune, Sir Patrick Vallance, the U.K. government’s chief scientific adviser, told Sky News on March 13."

“If the risks of COVID-19 were not so high, it would technically be possible to bring about herd immunity by allowing the disease to run rampant through a population. However, evidence shows that scenario would lead to high rates of hospitalisation and need for critical care, straining health service capacity past the breaking point.”

“After new simulations of the outbreak from Imperial College London showed how badly hospitals would be overwhelmed, the U.K. suddenly reversed course on Monday and introduced new social distancing measures. By Friday, the Prime Minister had ordered all pubs, restaurants, gyms, and cinemas to close.”

“Still, the question of herd immunity’s role in slowing the Coronavirus lingers because of how it might determine the success of vaccine development—and the chances that the virus may flare back up once social distancing policies end.”

There are cases appearing, where non vulnerable people (with no underlying health conditions) have contracted the virus and they are struggling to breathe.

To help prevent further spread of the virus, the Government has now implemented their new rules on staying at home and away from others.

The test to determine if you've had the virus is crucial. Those people should be able to move freely and help wherever. Assuming they really are immune for a while.

The Health Secretary has confirmed that the UK has ordered 3.5 million antibody tests to detect who has already contracted Coronavirus and ensure that NHS staff and other key workers can return to the frontline.

Matt Hancock said that millions of the new tests, described as a “game changer” by Boris Johnson, would soon be available to help determine who may be immune from the disease and safe to go back to work.

The tests can show if someone has developed antibodies in their bloodstream after fighting the virus, with medical advisers confident those who recover will have developed immunity.

According to health experts, there’s not been any evidence that anyone’s had the virus more than once. Someone with a normal immune system that can react to the virus and get better should have immunity for quite some time, at least a year, if not lifelong.

Looking at the markets seems that for the time being they have started to bottom out.
Not dared to look at my portfolio though😵
