Unsolicited DVLA tax refund?

Has anyone else received one of these spam text messages?

"DVLA. Your outstanding vehicle tax refund from an overpayment is pending. Please visit our secure link to process" followed by an extremely dodgy-looking link.

I wonder how many unwary souls will be caught out.

Quite alarming, the amount of fraudsters as soon as there's an epidemic...

Nope, haven't had one ... But got a letter asking for 555 odd quid to retax mine end of April.

Off to SORN we go.

There are some truly horrible people in this world, there’s another one being sent to mobiles saying you have been identified as having been close to someone now confirmed to have COVID-19 and to follow the link for more info.

The domain name was only registered on 16th April 2020, which is a bit of a giveaway ....

I had one a couple of weeks ago. Obvious scam as mine has been on Sorn since last October, but could catch out someone who may never have sorn'd a car before. Always some B***** trying to make the most of a crisis. Never click a link, always take the long way to see if its true or not.

Also meant to add that, I'm still waiting on a million pounds as a reward that some kind African prince offered me if I sent him my bank account number so that he could deposit his fortune in it. He did say that my account would sit at zero for a couple of weeks before the money would be deposited as its common banking practice. Been a month now

I keep getting emails from PayPal which look OK apart from the sender's address when you click on is not PayPal.com

Worth remembering you only get vehicle tax back if you sorn or sell. If you have not done either then don't expect a return of funds. If you have done then your refund comes in the form of a cheque in the post...

No, the message stated they were returning the excess after an overpayment. Still easy to see it's a con, though - who pays even more tax than they have to?
