Hi All,

I was considering GAP Insurance but after some reading I am not overly convinced that it's worthwhile.

Has anyone any thoughts/experiences which may help me decide please?

Thanks,
Jules

Only you can decide if it's worthwhile for you, but if you do go ahead, try ALA, a forum sponsor - see the thread near the top of the index page. ;)

+1 for ALA Gap Insurance.

Took out a 4 year 'Return to Invoice' (also known as 'Back to Invoice') policy with them for the very reasonable price of £220.

Taken from the link below.....

"If your vehicle is a total loss, due to an accident, theft, fire or flood damage, your motor insurer will only pay you the market value (second hand value) at the time. Due to vehicle depreciation this will be much less than you originally paid for your vehicle. If you have finance, it might not be enough to cover the amount you owe. ALA Return to Invoice GAP Insurance policy will pay the difference between the motor insurer’s settlement and the original vehicle invoice price, or the outstanding finance balance, whichever is higher at the time of the claim."

For the sake of a few hundred pounds I thought it worthwhile, so I followed the link and i'm sorted - thank you!

Definitely worthwhile and peace of mind too!

The link I provided explains how the ALA GAP Insurance 'Return to Invoice' policy works.

I’ve just seen this link on the forum from ALA........there’s a discount code forum123 which gives 10% off any policy.

Not much use to you but maybe others - if you go through the link on the moneysavingexpert website to ALA you’ll get the same policy but with 25% off.

That's annoying but like you say it may help someone else.

I'm not sure how much you paid for the ALA GAP Insurance policy but if it was a substantial amount it could be worth contacting them to ask if they can match the ALA 25% discount code (MSE25) offered by https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/car-i ... insurance/

If you have a look at the ALA messages here viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2897 it seems they may have done this before, except it was in the policy opening process and not afterwards. Could still be worth a try though?

Alternatively, you could cancel the policy and then apply the 25% discount code mentioned above to open a new ALA policy.

All of the GAP insurance policies sold by ALA allow a 30-day cooling off period. To obtain a refund, contact them within 30 days of the policy start date and they will refund the amount paid in full, as long as no claim is being processed at the time.
