The below might be of interest to those of you with a classic car in the garage...

https://www.fbhvc.co.uk/news/article/fb ... cle-owners

And whilst the checker below is for UK cars only it can be fun to try a couple and see :D

Previously taken from https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-e10-petrol

“E10 petrol is cleared for use in all Jaguar vehicles with petrol engines starting from model year 1992.”

“E10 fuel will be available at almost all petrol stations across the UK. Petrol stations that offer 2 grades of petrol will stock both E10 (‘Premium’) and E5 (‘Super’) petrol.”

“E10 is becoming the UK’s standard petrol grade, meaning almost all filling stations’ standard 95-octane (‘Premium’) petrol grade will be blended with up to 10% renewable ethanol.”

“E5 (higher-octane petrol with no more than 5% renewable ethanol), however, will remain available at filling stations that sell 2 grades of petrol.”

“Some rural, remote or very small filling stations may sell only E5 petrol as standard.”

And as per previous threads on the topic, the Esso super-unleaded fuel apparently has 0% ethanol, so 'should' be the best choice if you want the best performance from your fuel, at a cost of course.

I have got into the habit of only using higher octane fuels anyway, so the change to E10 shouldn't affect me. I suppose it's one way the government can recoup some extra revenue, by making fuel efficiency lower and making us fill up more often (apols for the cynicism)

I'm liking the sound of that.

I'm also hatching a plan to remove the Ethanol from the petrol...allegedly one adds purified water to the petrol and the Eth forms a boundary layer between the 'pure' petrol and water and thus can be taken away!

Maybe just use E5 Super or Esso...if it remains Eth 'free' to save all the fussing ;-)

I have moved over to Esso 99 as it's Ethanol free, also I have an Esso card free through PCGB (my other car) which gives 5p off a litre currently. Makes Esso cheaper than Tesco👍Maybe JEC could get something similar for it's members 🤔

Prefer the power of the 98 octane and never use anything but, the cost differential is minimal when compared to the cost of the car.
