Hello,

Not really done too much to my car yet in term of DIY ‘detailing’. Still gathering information & watching YouTube videos!

Recently I used 2500 wet & dry to rub out a couple of light scratches/marks. I then used Meguires 105 Compound, then Meguires polish. Very pleased with the results but not sure how much of the clear coat I took out!

Quick question. How many times can you polish (hand or machine) your car before you’d start to get near the clear coat?

Surely, if you polished it every year, eventually you’d strike through?

Maybe something like this will take a bit of the guesswork out of your polishing.

You will only ever strike through if you continued to use aggressive pads and polishes. Once you've corrected your paint finish to remove swirling or defects then a light polish once a year with a finishing pad and polish should be enough to bring back a nice high gloss finish. Of course then seal with a sealant/wax etc.
