Mine had a full differential replacement so hopefully that may fix that weakness.
I wonder if it is a particular year manufacture fault or are all F Type diffs prone to failure even now?

Jonnyg, what model do you have, interesting to know if it's all F Type diffs or just the V6s diffs.

Yep - second owner, Serviced from the Same dealer Guy Salmon Maidstone. They identified the leak in April! I've since heard if you over tighten the repair instead of torque it - it will kill the diff. I've caught wind of mine not being a one off!!!
Mine is your basic 3.0 V6 Auto, not a fancy 8 or anything stressing the diff.

JurrasicF - did yours fail too then??

Jonnyg, mine went in for seal replacement as I had identified weeping diff seals the day after collection...from Guy Salmon!!!!!!
Guy Salmon said it was not present on the used car inspection....C**P!
Guy Salmon had serviced my car from new.

Westover my local dealer immediately agreed with the seal problem and changed the seals.
On test drive and then running on the ramp, they said the diff sounded wrong so decided to do a full swap for a new diff under warranty.

Two things:
Makes me wonder about Guy Salmon's technical ability.
Did Westover also over tighten the repair causing the problem.

I just hope my new diff solves the problem.

Interesting your's is a 340 as I thought the 340 and 380 diffs were different as is the V8?

Fingers x'd!

Tough luck, sorry to hear about the failure :(
Are they doing it under warranty? If so have they questioned the mods you have made to the car?

Cheers

Jonnyg, have you tried writing to Jaguar customer service about this, outlining full Jag s/h and the fact that the seals have been replaced by Guy Salmon recently.
Cannot believe there is no goodwill from them.

I can vouch for he overtightening killing the diff having just gone through that experience.

Took the car in on the Monday for leaking diif seal and a couple of other bits. Collected car on the Friday and drove it home in heavy traffic. Decided to go out in it on the Friday evening to just make sure the various things had been done ok but as soon as I rolled it out of the garage I heard a low, grinding noise. Drove up the road a few hundred yards and took it straight back home.

Called Jaguar Assist on Sat. morning and Technician arrived to inspect the noise. Said the diff (coupling) had been overtightened and had split the bearing. Car was recovered back to dealer who informed me they weren't going to try repairing it and have ordered a complete new diff.

One week later and I collected it today, 200 miles later and all seems well.

If you are having to pay full price, is it worth taking it to a Jag specialist and getting an engineer's report?

Hello ... so looks like a poor skilled mechanic being used by this dealer, also if I am correct jaguar do not make the differential units ... GKN are the supplier of the units based on my research

This is exactly the noise that Westover described after they had done the seal replacement.
So guess they also overtightened the coupling.

Jonnyg, have you had any success in getting Jaguar to acknowledge that this should be something they should give you a contribution to?
