Have been told by a dealer that the diff on the V8, (don’t know about the V6) is a known problem, well worth the extra warranty IMHO until we get a JTB

Nope. Just got a big fat 'Tough, we couldn't care at all.' from Jaguar.
Looks like there is a long term bomb about to go off...

Does anyone have a link to, or the actual service bulletin for this issue, by chance?

Got me worried now, I've just bought privately (so no warranty) and my V8 S now has 33k miles on it!! Haven't noticed anything on the floor in the garage so assume so far so good. (I need to stop reading stuff like this on the tinternet, seems every car I buy has something to "worry" about and ends up tainting the experience!)

So for those out of warranty, is a diff repair a Jag dealer only thing or can a specialist take this on?

Diff seals are easy I would have thought, seems you just have to be super careful you use the correct torque values when replacing them. Will do some checking.

Found this for JTB’s

Just had my car serviced before going out of warranty and It had a leaking rear diff seal. (V8R Coupe @18,800 miles)
Service Manager did imply it was not an unusual issue - but it is all covered under the warranty and will be done in the next couple of weeks.

Not sure Jaguar dealers are all that !!
Just had my 2015 V6S coupe serviced at Williams Manchester at the end of March they noted slight leak from rear diff. seal. Advised could be left to next inspection when I queried what if the diff lost all the oil they replied the diff would seize. So its a no brainer lets replace the seal.

Had this done last Friday. No indication that anything was at fault no noises or oil spots on garage floor. Told them that I had researched a forum and asked them to ensure they did not over tighten when fixing the fault. Drove home Friday evening didn't notice anything. Came to drive it on Monday morning a weird low whirring noise on coasting which could be heard over the radio. Rang the garage who asked to see the car ASAP.

Managed to pop in on lunch hour within 1 hour was put in a £40k XF off the forecourt with dealer insurance and with CDW added so no excess all with no argument. New diff being ordered and fitted as long as Jaguar agree.

Design fault or mechanic error- service department seem to be falling over themselves to get this sorted. Ummm !!
