Hi guys need a bit if advise. I'm due to sell my car soon and I've misplaced one of the keys . I got a new key online and it just needs programmed. The only other post similar to this someone was saying if you lost a key you would need to replace the ecu. After phoning jaguar they say that's not true. Anyway can you programme the key yourself by pushing buttons on a order like most cars or does it require going back to a dealer. I'm trying to avoid going as when I lost a Ford key fob the bill was like £500 for a new one. Ive managed to get a brand new jag one for 25 on eBay.

Thanks

In the absence of any replies from F-Type owners perhaps I can give some info.
Back in 2015 there was a change to the key programming etc on JLR vehicles.
I will stress I cannot confirm if this applies to the F-Type but it seems to be pretty much across the board of models.

The two keys supplied are paired with a thing called the "Remote Function Actuator" or RFA which is a module that lives in the car.
You cannot programme a new key as they only talk to each other and won't accept a new one.
If a key is lost the they have to supply a new RFA and two new keys which have been paired with it.
Initially the cost was pretty eye-watering although there is apparently a topix ref K285v4 which clarifies that the owner will only be liable for the two new fobs and cost of cutting the blade keys.
The dealer will supply and fit the new RFA unit at no cost.
According to a topic on the F-Pace forums this works out at around £300 to the owner for the new keys.
Most are now taking out the key insurance which will cover things.
ALA who do the Gap cover sell the key insurance for around £35 per year.

Again I cannot confirm if this applies to the F-Type as well but apparently if anyone has full Topix access the ref above gives a list of the vehicles it applies to.

As far as your problem is concerned, if it is a simple programme works then a guy on the F-Pace forums had a key done for his XKR in the past for £180 at an independent specialist.
