Evening,

I’ve just checked the oil for the first time in a while and noticed it’s dropped by about a third ( over 5000 miles).

General daily driving, few trips, a few short runs, backnroad hooning but nothing extreme.

I’m not overly worried but wondered what other V8 owners are getting?

Cheers

D

But what mileage does that represent?

This is very odd, I've just checked it again (the car is cold) and it is at the top level. When I tried it last night I had just been on a short run to pick my son up from football the car was up to temp so it should have been ok. I'll try again when I get home.

That's because the oil has had a chance to drain back down into the sump.

Didn't think you could check from cold?
Have to wait 10 mins after switching off the engine from operating temp to get the readout?

Mine doesn't seem to have used any in 8 months and 3k miles.

I know, what I was wondering is why if they tell you 10 mins after warming it up was it different.

ie if it is showing as the correct level after the 10 mins will it show over when really cold?

It was always the case with wet sump cars you check them after they have stood a while but dry sump either after they've run or are ticking over. I assume that the level sensor in the F Type acts just like a dipstick and it will take a while for all the oil to drain back to the sump after running. I guess that if the oils warm it will run back down to the sump fairly quickly - hence the wait ten minutes. Of course thecae always needs to be sitting on level ground.
