Thanks guys that's very helpful. As you can guess from my previous post, it hasn't been straight forward and, we're not there yet.
I'll post back my results when finished.

My subframe is rusted as well as the braces.

I noticed a small bit when they sent me a video of the back box work (they replaced it FOC). Questioned it and was told it passed resistance tests and is fine (they also carried out MOT and nothing reported, but guessing just means it'snot structurally bad right NOW). If I knew it was a big fault I would have kicked up a fuss then -s***!

I have 2 yrs extended warranty (bought from JLR Inchcape Guildford), has anyone had any luck in recent months with making claims or getting any work done either FOC or at least help towards it? I note RSPN says they don't seem to be paying out for this anymore? :|

It has a FSH at Inchcape, so I guess I could point out that they should have known full well that this is a 'thing' and should have been dealt with previously.

Great start... sigh...

@JagFLSC

This is what I said......

"As far as I know, Jaguar are no longer authorising this work under any goodwill gesture etc."

"I'm not sure about vehicles which are still within the manufacturer's 3 year warranty though?"

As your car has a FSH at Inchcape and you have 2 yrs extended warranty (bought from JLR Inchcape Guildford), perhaps the rear underbody brace corrosion issue may be covered?

Worth contacting them to find out (show them the official bulletin I posted earlier). If you don’t get any joy try the Jaguar Customer Experience Centre.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained ;)

You don’t mention what year your car is?

Hi,
I had mine done about a month ago after a long battle with the customer experience centre. I think the problem is that they have a set script and it is difficult getting beyond that to get some action.
What I did is send them the TSB (which has been removed for some reason) along with examples of Jag owners that have had work done under warranty. They should create a case number so that your local Jaguar can do a report. My local garage were not aware of the history of brace rust so I would also send them a few examples of completed warranty work. Another option is to renovate some 2nd hand braces and then sell your old ones. Keep an eye on parts for sale on this site as I am aware of someone who is renovating his old ones and I assume he will put the advert on shortly.

I also had a long battle with the Jaguar CEC approx 2 years ago and was successful in the end. The complete rear subframe was removed from the car and the corrosion was treated. Also the rear underbody braces were renewed and an anti-corrosion product was applied to them for extra protection.

Member JagFLSC mentions......” Just checked and my subframe is rusted all over the place as well as the braces. I noticed a small bit when they sent me a video of the back box work (they replaced it FOC). If he doesn’t get anywhere with the main dealer or Jag CEC then he could have the affected components (subframe and braces) treated in a good car bodyshop etc (unless he is able to do the work himself). My local Independent Jaguar Specialist now offers this service.....https://the-jaguar-specialist-register.com/

It would be pointless refurbishing second hand components if the ones on his car are showing surface corrosion which is not structurally bad.

Thanks guys.

Have contacted Guildford Inchcape and am in the process of sending photos, as well as a copy of the SSM.

The manager is dealing with me directly and back in tomorrow, will hopefully get first feedback after sending photos soon. On closer inspection, the braces do look battered.

Sounds like from everyone's experience I could be in for a drawn out saga. But needs to be done.

To answer your previous question RPSN, it's a 2015 S model.

The reason I asked what year your car is, was to see how far outside the manufacturer’s 3 year warranty it is. From my experience, this is a crucial point with regards to the rear subframe & braces corrosion issues reported to the Jag CEC.

Hope you’re successful with your claim but if not, all is not lost, as you have other options which are not too expensive.

Once you’ve had the work done, it’s very rewarding and gives peace of mind knowing that those underbody components are structurally sound and protected from corrosion. Even so, I check mine whenever I’m working under the car and also when it’s up on the ramp having the annual MOT.

Not wanting to burst anyones bubble, I have it first hand from a main dealer that the new braces are only fractional better than the old. His advice was to get your original treat properly yourself. Keep checking them and keep applying the protection.

Taken from the Jaguar bulletin SSM74031 (X152 Under body brace corrosion).....

“New spec parts include a Zinc-Nickel plated layer between paint protection and the metal substrate which provides a greater level of corrosion protection for exposed under body steel components including protection against stone chippings and other environmental impacts due to the Zinc-Nickel hardness properties.”

Even if the new spec parts are slightly better than the old ones that’s a bonus, especially if Jaguar replaces them under warranty etc. If you’re not fortunate enough to have them replaced under warranty and your original braces are only showing surface corrosion then getting them treated is a good idea.

As mentioned earlier, although I’ve had the complete rear subframe removed and treated and also had new under body braces (with an extra anti-corrosion product applied), I check them now and again to see if further protection is required.
