ENGINE OIL LEVEL
In the F-TYPE maintenance schedule it instructs (instruction no. 22 of 24) to RESET ENGINE OIL LEVEL INDICATOR at every service. Anybody know why or what it involves?
340 coupe auto 2016MY, ammonite/corris grey, red performance heated seats, pano roof, 20" turbine wheels, switchable active exhaust, front & rear parking sensors, rear camera.
In brief note form, from the point after refilling the oil, the manual says.....
- Wait 5 min
- Start the engine and allow to run for 10 min
- Stop the engine
- Ensure on flat ground with bonnet open
- Allow 10 minutes from the engine switch off for the engine oil level to stabilise
- Turn ignition on
- Access the engine oil level display
- Press the cruise control cancel button twice within 2 seconds
This display is now the LIVE reading of the engine oil level.
- If oil level is correct
- Turn the ignition off
- Turn the ignition on
- Press and hold the cruise control cancel button for more than 5 seconds
- Turn the ignition off
- Turn the ignition on
- Scroll through the trip menu to access the engine oil level display
- Make sure that the average oil level value has now been updated
This display is now the AVERAGE reading of the engine oil level.
So I would suggest that the oil display has a live and an average display. Us mere mortals (owners) when we view the oil level has some "average" or approximate value???? I am guessing here..... but by following the steps above you can change it to LIVE mode to ensure you have the correct level following a service?
I'm not sure what I have written even makes sense! I am guessing. But that is what the instructions suggest.
HTH...... but probably raises more questions.

Thanks simpleR for the detailed explanation. I was concerned that the "level indicator" could be recalibrated (zeroed) to the new oil change level, after the known correct amount of oil was put in at oil change, in which case you would be relying on the accuracy of the oil changer. Your explanation has ruled this out, the oil level indicator cannot be recalibrated (as a dip stick cannot be), but just switched between live or average readings.

There is no mention of what to do if you don't have cruise control CAN button!!
I have the workshop manual for a V6s which covers my 400 and most model variates where components are shared so for example the live oil option applies to V8 as well.
I'm guessing that V6 cruise control was an option? And standard on V6s?

I cannot get my screen to show these menu's. Do you have to have the bonnet up for them to show. All I can access is a basic menu with things like mph or km etc.

Do not start the car. Hit the start button without your foot on the brake then OK the message and you will see the menu.
