<t>In February I had a coolant leak. Called out Jaguar assistance who diagnosed the expansion tank filler cap was faulty.

To save time and as I only use the car at weekends I purchased a new one myself from Jaguar Stockport and fitted it

All as been well until last week when I found a puddle of coolant under the car.

I have managed to video we’re there appears to be a leak .

Any ideas ? The car is booked in on 3rd June under warranty would just be good to point the technician in the right direction.
Many thanks.</t>

Hope you haven't voided your warranty by fitting a cap yourself! ;)
x100 (XK8/R) expansion tanks used to be renowned for developing splits where the top and bottom halves were welded together - hope that's not the case with F-Types.

...looks like it's the cap or possibly the neck of the bottle that is leaking as the tell-tale is coming from high up.

Carefully unscrew the cap (when the coolant is cold of course) and send us another photo of the neck and the underside of the cap please.

Many thanks.
See pictures attached. One person thinks the cap is letting pressure out has there is a fault in the cooling system maybe the thermostat
The temperate gauge never goes above normal though ?.

Thanks for the photos John...what I was after was to see if it had split on any of the threaded/weakest part of the neck.

If it's blowing the cap (even the new one) then either the springs in the caps are both goosed, or as you say, the temp is high. There is a remote possibility that the silicon washer that seals onto the top of the threaded tank is not deforming enough to make a tight seal...but it's a remote chance.

Not sure if you are conversant with OBD diagnostics, if you are, then simply monitor the coolant temperature and it shouldn't go above 88-92C.

As an aside, Glycol is nasty stuff and doesn't do metal/paintwork or finishes any good. Make sure you dilute any that spills out with a jug of tap water.

Are you local to Dorset?

Hi
Many thanks for the input.
I am up in Oldham I have booked the car in on the 3rd June at Jaguar in Stockport.
At least I can give them a heads up.
I will keep the topic updated when it has all been sorted.
It’s under warranty until April 2020
Hopefully what ever it is will be covered by the warranty......?...

Just out of interest. What colour should the coolant be? It just looks a merky brownish on the pictures. I was expecting a blue or green for some reason.

As your outside of manufacturer warranty as of 24th April 2019, I would be interested to see how the extended warranty goes (which expires 27th July) which I presume is the warranty you speak of.
I'm now considering what to do about warranty on mine and would be interested to see how the warranty claim goes (as the 2yr Jaguar used approved and the 1yr extension are underwritten by the same company). Please let us know especially with any delays in the warranty claim getting approved.

Hi
Coolant is actually pink see picture.
Jaguar Stockport replaced all my rusty cross braces in April with no questions asked.

My extended warranty runs until April 2020 as per my documentation.

I will keep you updated on what happens.

Are you tightening the cap until it feels tight enough, or are you tightening it until hear the ratchet click at least three times (as the stated in the hand book), which is quite tight.
