Thanks SCM - all kind of strange, what with Z being between V and W and ZR being made up by Pirelli! Looks like Y in parenthesis are the kiddies though (over 186mph for those Autobahn runs). You've saved me a lot of research and had scratching, so that's much appreciated!

I don't think Pirelli really made up ZR, it was just the next higher after SR, HR and VR in the pre-1991 rating scheme.

If you think you need (Y) have you hacked your speed limiter?

Just a note for you guys that do not know. When I bought the ftype 1 tyre was naff at rear. Went to Performance wheels in leeds. He commented that the naff tyre was from an Aston martin. The tyres look the same but the ones for the Jaguar have a J stamped on the side wall. He says the tyre company do various types of belting on there tyres to suit different cars.

Most did have AM (Astons) on them from new!

Ah. Well it was only 1 that had that stamp on. The rest had the J on. But not sure if it has had any tyres. Car now done 20,000 miles & all tyres are still good so I suspect it must have had a set at some time previous to my ownership which was at 17,000.

Yep, mine had 'AMS' spec Pirelli's on the rear with 'J' spec on the front when delivered new from the factory (20 inch wheels).

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration, unless slicks have reasonably good grip on ice. My AWD on Pirellis feels a lot more secure than my previous RWD XKR. The RWD V8s I understand can be a bit of handful on any tyres, which just adds to the excitement!

Nope it isn't !!! Last year I got caught out coming home in a slight snow shower, got home safe, went to reverse back into the garage, gravel drive, with the very very slightest of gradients, wouldn't move, sat there with the wheels spinning, in all modes, eventually had to be pushed in!! Pirelli do amazing discounts to suppliers of top end cars, hence why they are fitted as standard.

Hope you lot are right i've just ordered a full set of Michelin PS 4S’s, soon find out, they're being fitted Thursday!

Just a quick question.
Do they have rim protection?
Michelins website says they do , anyone confirm?
