My rear brakes are almost gone. Down to 2mm, whilst the fronts have about 6mm remaining. Car is 2014 with 33k miles, and still on original brakes.

Unusual for the rears to wear out before the fronts was my first thought, but the car is generally driven gently.

Do these cars have a pad wear warning? Nothing has come up and they are really almost on the metal now.

Where do you good people get your pads from? I’ll be changing them myself, and will strip and clean the fronts too while I’m at it.

Any recommendations for a decent make of pad? There is nothing wrong with the original equipment, but a bit costly from Jag dealer.

Folks on the US forum suggest Porterfield R4S is the way to go. EBC reds or yellows are also mentioned. You don't say which model you have or which brake type you have.

It’s a 3.0S Coupe, with the bigger brakes.

If I recall correctly the wear indicators are front left and rear right and the manufacturer spec. for minimum wear is 3mm.

But the indicators may be set to 2mm so about to flag up - they are sacrificial type so need to be replaced with the pads.

I've used EBC in the past but latest feedback from others is to try Pagid.

To be honest I'd be happy with anything that didn't make quite so much damn brake dust!!

My XE hardly made any.

Brake dust has never been an issue, it got black wheels. Eurocarparts have Pagid.

I have silver wheels on my F-Type and brake dust is a real issue (especially on the front).

I’ve seen some good reviews on the Porterfield R4-S brake pads which have a very low dust level. I’m considering these when I next replace the pads? They are more expensive than Pagid which cost approx £68 with eurocarparts (inc discount code) but they could be worth it?

The Porterfield UK website doesn’t list any brake pads for the Jaguar F-Type but David Appleby Engineering Ltd has the Jaguar F-Type R, V8S, V6S Porterfield R4-S Brake Pads Front AP 1750 -Velocity AP. The price is £134.58 (see link below). For other F-Type models click on ‘SHOP’ and input details into the ‘Filter by vehicle’ box.

Taken from the David Appleby website.......

"This is an amazingly fast stopping brake pad. Simply put, they will give you an impressive increase in stopping ability with very minimum amount of pedal effort. Perfect for prolonged everyday street driving while also being capable of enduring the most severe use without fade. It is also rotor friendly of course."

“We have gone to great measures to ensure that the R4-S compound has the absolute lowest noise and dust levels possible, far below O.E.M. equipment or any other high performance.”

“Perhaps one of the overall best performing, clean and quiet everyday high performance driving brake pad ever made.”

Are any members of this Forum currently using the Porterfield R4-S brake pads? If so, is there a noticeable difference in the amount of brake dust compared to the original equipment (OE) pads and is there an improvement in braking performance?

I'll let you know once I have my front and rears installed. Been sat on my shelf since September waiting to be fitted along with my Mich's.

PS... Do your research...there are cheaper suppliers of R4-S's around.

Will be good to know, cheers ;)

Can’t find the Porterfield R4-S Brake Pads in the UK any cheaper than David Appleby Engineering Ltd at £134.58.

On the Porterfield US site they are $135.95 but it doesn’t say anything about delivery?

Do you have any links to the Porterfield pads for the V6 S (380mm front discs)?

I'm away at sea working and don't have access to my car files... I ended up using a Japanese sports car specialist that uses Portfield for their Supras etc.

I find using a supplier that is as far removed from the Jaguar brand name as possible always the most economic.

Dollar and pound is near parity, so by the time you add the customs scam fee, you end up at around the same figure as an importer.
