One of the first things I did after bringing my F-Type home was to remove the pointless engine cover. The whole engine bay is immaculate but after removing the cover I noticed that there was like a fine white powder or residue of something on the sides of the supercharger and engine block. I can't remember ever seeing that in my XF which had the same engine. The powder easily comes off if you touch it.

I think I read somewhere that this is just something that this is pretty normal and is just some kind of surface reaction on the block. Can't remember where I saw that though.

Any views on this? Does anyone else have this?

Ah, that's where I saw it! Thanks! All good then.

Condensation due to outdoor parking does sound like the most likely explanation. Would also explain why my last AJ126 block was immaculate - it was always garaged. Shouldn't be any more corrosion for me then because the F-Type also always is garaged now,

Out of curiosity, does your F-Type have the 'open mesh' or 'shrouded' bonnet vents as shown here?.....

The "shrouded" ones with the tiny holes.

Cheers.

Just wanted to ensure that the corrosion issues on the engine block and bell housing are not made worse by the fact that the ‘open mesh’ bonnet vents allow more water/moisture into the engine bay than the ‘shrouded’ vents.

It isn't a problem for the metal, although it doesn't look great. I wonder if the car has been washed with a high or low PH fluid in its past.

It’s quite a common issue, especially on vehicles that are not garaged and exposed to the elements as explained in the link provided earlier in this thread.

Good to hear from different F-Type owners (including MajorTom) to see whether or not the ‘open mesh’ bonnet vents make the engine block and bell housing corrosion issues any worse, which by the looks of it, don’t.
